I have an xfx 8600gt fatality and i wanted to overclock it so i get a better frame rate in cod4 and crysis on high settings.

but before i do anything

1.what program should i use (river tuner or nvidia's overclocker)

2.how long does a card usually last for once you overclock it ?

(im looking to overclock it to the gts speed and core)

3.does xfx repair cards that have been overclocked or give new ones ?

if you can please answer them that would be great

btw im looking to overclock it to 675 core clock and 2ghz memory clock

For the record, the 8600GT/S probably won't run crysis very well on high unless your res is 1440x900 or less, and i'm still not sure it would do that to be honest.

I personally use Nvidia's overclocking/tuning software just because of the integration, but RivaTuner is a great program if you don't mind running another.

As long as you overclock it so it's usable and doesn't overheat (obvious when the picture starts to artifact), you shouldn't notice any decreased lifespan of your hardware.

Most GFX companies will not replace an overclocked card if the overclocking was the cause of the fault and it was obvious. The only time it would really be obvious is if you were to actually fry the card, which is extremely unlikely, your PC would just crash first lol. So overclocking does void most warranties, but they'll probably still cover it as long as you don't completely ruin it via overheating.
