Is it worth overclocking my amd athlon, i have water cooling and good airflow,

atm im running 35c in warm weather and 40 underload.

If u advise overclocking how do i overclock it

I am running an asus av8 deluxe mobo, ocz platinum ddr3200 ram x1900xt graphics

Edit: i have photos of all bios if needed.

Cheers

RIchard

Temps seem a bit high b4 oc`ing and under wc.

Not sure how well that cpu clocks, but the 3800s perform really well. Again with the mobo, don`t know the ASUS av8, but other av8s are pretty configurable.

I`d say give the guides on the forum a good solid read and go for it. Be patient as the thread says tho I seems to recall.

Get another opinion about u`r temps under water and @ stock (cos a wc expert I aint), I still feel it`s a little high.

OK

well i have another problem to get sorted too so will ask bout water cooling too

40°C load isn't too bad, what water cooling ya got?

It's deffo worth clocking any processor imo :D

thermal take radiators, a alphacool pump and 3 fans which were gd make and good diameter pipe, thermaltake northbridge and cpu blocks, all supplied by ayd @ specialtech.

i got a 3800+ X2 @ 2.4ghz under Arctic Cooler 64 Pro Load temps 50 (1.38v) , and 2.7ghz load temps 58 (1.48v)

Mine's 35C idle, neighborhood of 50C load. Currently running at 2.61GHz (237x11) since I had some instability under Vista during the summer. CPU-Z reads voltage as 1.456V, I think it's set to 1.46-7V in the bios.

At one point I took the voltage all the way up to 1.57V or so and couldn't get any more out of it; if you have watercooling you may be able to take it to 1.6 or so and get more out of yours.

all my mobo setttings are on auto, if i submit pictures can ppl tell me what settings for everythink i need to do to make it run the best,

Im also getting a blue screen coming up saying IRQL conflict and sometimes a USB problem but its been doing it ever since day 1 and i have never found a solutiuon, i have posted on here before about it.

EDIT: i have done a CPU-Z read out and here are the results:

u got 4 sticks??

go in the bios and set ur ram speed to 200mhz, or DDR400 (w/e its listed at) since right now its running around 3/5 of the speed it should be

yup 4 sticks of high spec ram.

changed it to 200mhz,

theres loads of things that need setting up, if someone takes the time to help me i would be grateful.

Yes, ur ram is running slower than ur cpu as u are using a divider. You ram looks to be rated to run @ 2-3-2-5 200mhz and im guessing ur running 4 x 1gb sticks.

Personally I would not run a divider (it will be in your bios settings) although with running 4 sticks of ram you made need to loosen ur ram timings to achieve this. This will speed things up.

BUT, if you want to oc your cpu, trying to oc 4 sticks of PC3200 ram at the same time will be very tricky. Therefore if your going to oc your cpu, leave the divider in place, and up the FSB in the bios. This will overclock the cpu while keeping your ram underclocked.

Hope you understand, im pretty tired tbh.

Edit: rofl i am tired didnt even notice a 2nd page to this thread.

lol im tired reading this  , makes no sence to me :eh: lol

the memory can reach a voltage of 2.8v before voiding warranty on the ram.

Basically i want to get the most out of everythink. i dont mind if the ram stays normal to get the processor better.

I might be able to help with this. When you get your next blue screen load up "Event Viewer" it's in "Administrative Tools" either in the start menu or in control panel.

There should be a red error entry in the "System" category and it it will mention the same things as the blue screen, check the date/time of this entry and then look in:

c:\Windows\Minidump

or similar for a file with the same date/time as the event log entry.

Zip that file up and send it to me @ regan@netmail.co.nz.

Or, if you'd like to give it a go you can debug it yourself, see:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263

You will need to download and install the debugging tools for windows, it's not big and doesn't take long to install.

The output of windbg can be a bit cryptic but I'm hoping it will mention a crash inside a particular driver file, you want to figure out if that driver is a standard windows one (which can suggest a hardware problem or instability) or a 3rd party driver (which suggests you want to upgrade that driver).

Let me know if you need any more help.

EDIT: you could just look in event viewer for an old blue screen event and find the matching minidump, that will work too but it might point to a driver you have since upgraded, as in it might be an old problem you have since fixed.

WIll do, i get 2 different errors and hoping the link to same thing

i will send u a zipped file if i can find it

cheers Richard

I have just had a crash, NO error was recoreded in the system in the event viewer, It came up error IRQL not less or equal
