Overclocking 3570k help

So today I decided to overclock my 3570k to 4.4 GHz and I set the voltage to 1.310v. I booted it up and it ran okay, so I ran Far Cry and after about 3 minutes it crashed. I then bought the multiplier to 42, which made the frequency 4.2 GHz. I booted it up again and looked at the clock speed on Core Temp and it still said 4.4 GHz (shown in the image). I went back into the BIOS to make sure I'd saved it right and it was still at 4.2 GHz.

So does anyone know why my clock speed will not go back to 4.2 GHz, or even the default speed?

Thanks.

MOBO: Asus Sabertooth Z77
Cooler: H100i
CPU: i5 3570k

I set my BIOS back to how it was and I'm still getting 4.4 GHz.

When i got my 3570k I had the same issue. I spent ages looking through things to find out what was wrong, turns out it was just boosting up to 4.4GHz on the intel boost. Now technically that shouldn't happen according to the specs but it could be the same thing for you.

I thought it could be the boost (which shouldn't go that high), but certain games crash still and they worked fine before I messed around with the overclock.
