Overclocked 3570k question.

I have a few questions about my 3570k. Having owned this chip for a while I decided to overclock it about half a year ago. My only experience with overclocking was a core 2 Duo E6300 so I was looking into some guides at the time how to overclock. Being as inexperienced as I am I gently took steps with my overclock. Steadily reaching 4.4Ghz on the stock voltages. This was 24/7 stable with all the stress test that I could find. The programs that i used where: Prime95,Aida64,Intel Burn Test, Battlefield 3, Crysis 3. While I was quite happy I felt that rounding it up to 4.5Ghz would be nice so that is what I did. This is where I ran into stability issues. By setting a voltage offset to get 1.086 everything seemed fine. After a while however it wasen't stable anymore in Battlefield and Crysis 3 so I raised the voltage to 1.096V and have been running it without any issues for half a year now . During which I had bought a Kwh meter to see how much power my pc needs. At idle it seems to pull about 80W and at load about 225W(at stock) with a 650W 80plus gold psu and 82W to 235W with the overclock.

With this story I have 1 questions. Isn't it more efficient for me to run it at 4.5Ghz with this marginal power increase? and reaching max temperatures of 66C as absolute highest temp with a Scythe Mugen3 is it perhaps possible to go even further? or is it just not worth it?

What motherboard do you have?

If it's only using an extra 10w with it being overclocked, I really wouldn't be thinking about power consumption.

4.5ghz at 1.096v is very good really.

If you're stable using offset with voltages that low, then I wouldn't worry about it so much, but you can often get the voltages down a bit if you run it on manual mode.

Generally on Ivybridge, you get to around 4.5/4.6ghz and then suddenly need far more volts. For example, my old 3770k needed 1.195v for 4.5ghz, but to put it up to 4.6/4.7ghz it was needing over 1.3v which really isn't worth the extra temperatures. IMO, it's best to find that threshold and put yourself just below it. I'd be inclined to see just how far you can go until you find that cut off point if voltages are staying that low.
 
I use an Asrock Z77 Extreme 6 board. As extra information it might be interesting that this is my second. The first one had to be sent back because it no longer got the CPU turn on signal from the PSU. However it had the same overcloking properties.

You might be interested to know the following because I did not really stop at 4.5Ghz however because I was happy I got that far I did not really do any extensive testing. For example 4.6Ghz needed 1.131V with AIDA64 and 1.191 with 4.7Ghz also tested only with 2 hours of AIDA64. Which is pretty far from the voltage needed for 4.5 but still reasonable it seems. Personally though I am a bit uncomfortable with going past 70C on the chip. When I have the case open the cooler never feels hot to the touch which makes me nervous.
 
Wow my voltage is 1.320 at 4.4Ghz I'm not sure if I should go higher I read up to 1.4 is ok as long as your temps are good.

Your vcore is very low ..you got a very good chip there ;)
