Overclock settings for my friends Q6600, confirm please?

His current settings are...

Q6600 CPU

Core Speed : 2400mhz

FSB : 266.7

Multipler : 9

Voltage : Stock

Memory, DRAM Frequency 800mhz (1600mhz DDR3)

FSBRAM : 2-6

Timing - 9-11-11-29

My suggested settings are...

Core Speed : 3000mhz

FSB : 333

Multipler : 9

Voltage : 1.3v

Memory, DRAM Frequency 832mhz (1664mhz DDR3) or 799.2Mhz (1598.4mhz DDR3)

FSBRAM : 2-5 or System memory multiplier (SPD) 2.40

Timing - 9-11-11-29

His computer has been overclocked before and has suitable cooling but the problem is i will be helping him overclock over the phone as i don't live near him. I am not used to Intel boards/processors so i was wondering do i need to change PCI Express Frequency and this also explains the above why i have both FSBRAM ratio aswell as SPD as i'm not sure which his bios settings will have.

Now i just want to confirm i'm not missing anything/anything is wrong before i help him with it. I was really into overclocking a few years back but memory if a bit iffy now.. Thanks and will rep all constructive posts.

I would not change the FSB, just the multiplier. If you are doing it over the phone I would do it the easy way first. FSB adjusting can increase in-stability a lot more that just upping the multi.

You will have a hard time considering the max multi on that chip is 9, 775 wasnt easy mode like it is with 1155/amd black editions

Get him to try booting into windows at 400x6 at 1.3-1.35v if his cooling will handle 1.35v to see if his cpu/motherboard are stable with that high of a FSB (both of mine and probably all q6600 i saw did 400 fine).

The 400 bus will let him get his memory to 1600mhz spot on and im assuming thats what he has as both your ideas had it sitting around 1600.

With the 400 FSB any of the 7.5x for 3.0, 8x for 3.2, 8.5x for 3.4 and MAYBE 9x for 3.6 are all potentially open for him if he has an ok motherboard, 3.4-3.6 was around the sweet spot for the q6600 with alot of people being able to get it fairly hassle free.

What motherboard/cooler does he have OP? as that may hint in the direction of what kind of clock he could get.

EDIT: keep his pci frequency at 100 or auto, some people noticed slight stability boosts in SOME cases with running it at between 100 and 110 but im pretty sure that was usualy on a big beefy multi gpu set up so i wouldn't bother messing with it.

If it is a q6600 G0 not (B3 not good) then it is no problem going for 8x400, 1.3-1.35v, pci frequency 100 and memory always close to default (1600mhz) 2 start with, 1550-1650 is ok 2 usually

And its good to know what motherboard he is using !

Thanks for the replies guys, i Hunta's advise and went to get him started on 6x400 but while i was on the phone to him, for about 20 minutes he couldn't find anything related to FSB/CPU Frequncy/etc all that was available was cpu multiplier and a few memory options. Everything is worded so flipping weird on his BIOS compared to mine it's unreal.

His motherboard is Asus Strike II Extreme and here (http://imgur.com/a/oNFHS#81eKx) are some images of his bios he sent me when i told to him cancel. (He didn't save settings)

I can change my bios settings so easily on my board but with his i have no idea what the 'beep' to do. No idea about LDT Frequency, CPU Level up, Memory Level up, QDR, etc. Would appreciate it if someone could shed some light or link me to a known explanation.

It's much like my old mobo, Asus used QDR set that to 1500 and above, depending on how good the chip is it may or may not need more volts, I ran my old Q6600 with 1.375vcore Synced with the ram.

The mobo he has and my old one have a FSB/QDR hole where anything between 1399-1500 will just simply not boot, so above or below those QDR/FSB settings.

Try QDR/FSB 1333, 3Ghz or 1512, 3.4Ghz with linked ram and add vcore as needed, turn off power options and C1E and speedstep and such, loadline on, 9 x multiplier.

Depending on the VID of the chip will depend on how much extra vcore is needed, I was able on my old Q6600 to get 3.4Ghz QDR 1599 with 1.425vcore but it wasn't fully stable with my mobo would random restart once a day.

I just got rid of my Q6600 and the easiest way was to just up the FSB. You might want to even drop the multiplier to 7 or 8. Exactly what I did and had my Q6600 at 3.4 stable.

your settings are the exact same settings I had. The Q6600 was a bit finicky with ram, so I would just up the FSB and it will just like always up the ram speed and see if it boots. Once you get it to boot then just mess with the ram, it was a task in itself to overclock my ddr2 Mushkin ram.

If i remember correctly the Spread Spectrum needs to be enabled for the FSB and all that.
