optional overclock?

i was just browsing through some gpu's and a few ati models had core clock speed as an optional overclock, i have a fair idea that this might mean you have the choice whether its stock or OC? correct

some manufacturers such as BFG and leadtek extreme editions overclock their graphics cards outmof the box. ati is saying tht their core can do these increased speeds but it is optional to the manufactuer whether they overclock it out of the box or not.

I thought it meant that you can do it manually with software provided with the graphics card.

But still the BFG OC 6800GT series are eXtreme!

Yeah they are. Just got rid of mine last week (AGP) and got a club 3d PCI-E (going for SLi when I can afford it). I miss the nice high stock clock. But i'mm gonna OC the nuts off this little fecker and see what she can do!

Manufacturers like HIS have an option to overclock their X850XT to XT PE speeds, and they gaurentee it will work because they have a rebranded Arctic Silencer cooling their card. Is that what you meant? I'm sure there are other brands but I can't think of any more at the moment..

Gainward OC out the box and they also have a Guaranteed OC from the software that they provide allowing you to OC the card

Ahh yes, I was talking about ATI cards since that's what harmonicgen asked about. Otherwise I would have given BFG a big mention and thumbs up and said GO BUY IT!!!!

well i cant even remember the model of it but it was a gecube model and it said " speedy edition " in it and it was optional overclock, and it did have a pretty hectic HSF on it

hmm check the clock speeds then because it is unclear if that actually will be overclocked or not.

core clock speed: optional overclock

I don't think he actually has the card that he's talking about, and CPU-Z doesn't show graphics card speeds does it?

i say stay clear of a card that doesnt tell you its real core cloc speed.
