Hmmn seems odd,but the only thing i can see different is that your,iphone,external dvd,and external hdd,all need file transfer requests,whereas your keyboard and mouse don't.

Could well be that toms right,and your external drive is failing,try unplugging and usng without,and then try unplugging external dvd drive,it has to be either one,or the other,my moneys on the external hdd.

Might also be worth checking the actual external connections inside the casing,and see if the sata connectors are loose at all on the hdd.

are the files you were trying to burn located on the external hdd?

I only plug external hdd in when needed, doesn't stay connected all the time, whereas the DVD rewriter stays plugged in constantly, and iPhone obviously when trying to sync to iTunes etc....

No was burning a cd that was on my main rigs hdd, dvdrewriter disconnected which failed the burn then reconnected straight away.

Maybe it's the dvdrewriter itself, but why would that cause problems for the other items?

So i'm guessing its the DVD-writer causing the probs, would that also be the cause for the other devices too (ie External HDD & Iphone)?
