Old/New O/clocker - Hello from N Wales

I just found this site when gleaning info for a new cooler for my recent "budget" build video-editing rig.

Hello everyone.

I used to be a moderator and tech advisor on "simplydv.com".... a site commited to helping folk capture and edit video on rigs soooooo much slower than they are today.... sadly now no more.

The last o/clock I tried was a P4 3.06Ghz chip that would only go to 3.2Ghz before it froze...... about 4 years ago.... sold it and bought a laptop !

So now My missus has financed another desktop for video-editing purposes as an early Christmas gift.

On a tight budget, so rather than the latest P4 Core Duo I looked for the last of the previous generation chip, and found this P4 641 3.2Ghz HT chip for a smidgen over 50 quid.

An Asus mobo,.... some Corsair memory, and with bits I had about me have built this rig for under £200.

Now I didn't realise at the time, but this P4 641 - DO stepping was pushed to 8.3Ghz recently in Japan !... albeit on Nitro ! ! !

So after building, I went into the excellent Award bios on this board, and easily clocked the chip to 4.05Ghz on the stock cooler .... just gets a little hot in Orthos after 30mins, - 60c - hence the search for another CPU cooler.... and my arrival here.

I like the review on the Scythe Mugen - (Infinity)

Should probably post elswhere about the o/clock... will keep folks posted.

Best Regards... Alan

Thanks for the welcome Kempez....Yes I like the look of the Scythe,... don't really want to watercool, and space ain't a problem.....

You are into cars,.... I used to prepare relly cars in the late 60s - 70s.... was a bit of an expert with multi SU carb setups and Weber sidedraughts..... happy days..... Mini 1340's and Escort Twincams.

Regards.... Al

Sweet! Those were the days when you could look at an engine and see what everything did!

My Dad had an awesome tuned 1275GT Mini :D

Max you could bore the 1275 out to was 1340 cc..... but the std 1275 could go some,.... especially with straight cut close ratio gears.... noisy as hell though.

Computers have killed cars today.... so predictable.....buy another chip... used to be able to tweak engines like we tweak computers today..... little bit here.... a little bit there....

Perhaps there is a hidden message there ? ? ?

Alan

:wavey: Hello Alan641 and welcome to OC3D. Regardless of whether you're an old/new clocker, or not even remotely into the performance side at all...everyone's welcome. :) See you in the threads

Thanks for the welcome PV5150, XMS and Colossous. Old person... new clocker PV150...

Not a native Colossous, but been here in the Rhyl/Rhuddlan area for nearly 40 years... just been looking at your Candy Cube project..... very nice.... suppose I should really do something with the old Tiny P2 case I have just built my latest P4 rig into.....

Alan.

Beg to differ, I've seen a 1275 bored to 1440cc (race spec not road :p)

Big into cars myself, infact I'm halfway through the rebuild of a 1978 998cc Mini 1000, though I kind of lost interest after it failed the MOT on a load of welding! Now it's sat in a lockup waiting until I have the money/time to finish it.

Couldn't agree more!
