Old-gen Mobos for Ivy Bridge?

Hey there,

I'm planning a general "brought up to the current generation" upgrade for my PC. Over the 2 years I've had this machine I've installed a new graphics card and SSD (amongst other accessories). SO with Ivy Bridge around the corner I'm looking to upgrade the /rest/ of my machine.

I don't have as much money as I would like for this however, so I'm looking to get the best value. I have read up on current generation motherboards for Socket 1155 such as ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 , GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD4 etc etc.I can see they offer a BIOS upgrade to PCI-E 3.0 and support 22nm chips (which I presume is Ivy Bridge).

SO I'm here to ask if it's worth getting one of these boards with non-OOTB PCI-E 3.0 and 22nm CPU support, or if I should get a board specifically designed for Ivy Bridge. I have my eye on the MSI Z77A-GD55 for this.

Please don't worry that much about the money side of things, I will delay if I need to, I'm not planning on upgrading my Motherboard & Processor for a long time after this! I'm just a little unsure as to how much extra the designed-for-22nm range can offer.

Thanks!

Buy the Z77 chipset motherboards!

i don't own any 3.0 USB perfs, seems the 3.0 pci-e generation is very new. so these newer bells and whistles will not effect sandy bridge

processor selection. and since i do have a dedicated graphics card, the 2550k is fine. i didn't know it at the time but my gig P67-UD7

has IB support and 3.0 pci-e already. seems the MB companies had some future-proofing done on the older models.

support for SATA 3 (6GB), stought VRAM support for overclocking, SLI for dual 560 hawks, and a color scheme and i'm good for a couple

of years..

another sorta plus will be when ivy does some to service, you'll see sandys for sale QUICK (680gtx syndrome).
