Oh by the way, I was a bit concerned about the motherboard temperature when I had it running at 3.2ghz (355x9). It was 49-52 degrees when running at load. Is that too high? As mentioned before, it only died when I switched to 400x8 and that was immediate.

The processor cores were running at about 47 degrees at load and about 30 at idle (core temp/Intel TAT).

Obviously the Northbridge on the P5B Deluxe doesn't employ any active cooling, and it says only to use the optional fan if you are running on water because it might effect airflow around the proccessor. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

NorthBridges can take 80-100°C afaik, but even if not 52°C is not high so that shouldn't be the thing that killed it

On the P5B I used the supplied fan as I found it got too hot otherwise

Temps are a little high but nothing to worry about. 70 is the danger point, 60/65 load is fine imo - obviously lower is better!

I'm at 3.5 (390*9) - load temps are 50-53 deg c...

You're nb should be ok if case air flow is ok. I used the supplied fan on mine as it was recommended, I doub't that is the problem.

As for a future recommendation - dfi rd600/ asus commando seem pretty hot at the moment.

Hi again Guys,

Just for the record, it was the mainboard!! I've put a new one in and its working fine.

I've decided I'd like to stick with a smallish overclock; 3ghz (333x9). My temps are looking good. I'd just like a bit of advice on the voltages to use. I've put my memory at 2.1v (which is what the manufacturer recommends), and at the moment I have the vcore on auto (it is using 1.4V). Is it worth trying to reduce this a bit?

When I was running at 3.2ghz (355x9) on the old board I got the voltage down to about 3.125. Is it worth me changing on the voltage on this new one if I'm only going to run this at 3ghz?

Not sure what you think of the temps (using a scythe infinity):

[333x9 - 3ghz]

- ambient room temperature was about 19C

- CPU 30c @ idle - core temperatures using TAT

- CPU 51c @ load - SP2004 on both cores. (using TAT again)

- Motherboard 38-43 @ Load (Asus probe)

does this look ok? Asus probe was reporting CPU temps up to 60c at load; I realise TAT/core temp are more accurate. Not sure if this matters.

I also dropped the volts down to 1.3750v, (reports 1.34v in asus probe?!) but haven't tested this properly yet, it looked like this had brought the core temps down a shade from initial testing.

Any advice or thoughts?

Yeh, I was using Intel Thermal Analysis Tool (TAT) and it gives the same temps as coretemp (I've been used both).
