PP's point is fair enough, but when they start slapping little Fagtal1ty stickers on things without making them even a single bit more "optimised" and then charging a pretty price increase I dont buy it. Its like gaming mice, one of my friends bought a £50 mouse to replace his £30 logitec one, and he seems to be deluded into thinking it makes him play better because it cost more.
Fagtal1ty products are a reasonable marketing strategy, if they were any different from the run of the mill part. For example, those EXACT heatspreaders are on the OCZ standard, platinum, sli, crossfire, fagtality etc. ram and the timings and price are all more or less the same. The enthusiast's used to buy bottom end cheap ass parts, and overclock them, the enthusiast now, is about 18 and buys maximus formula boards for £200 and a core2extreme for £1000, thats not what a pc enthusiast used to be. I remember the days when the magazines were full of unlocking athlon's etc. pencil mods, overclocking hints.
Fatal1ty branding is cashing in on the "enthusiast" market, simply by appealing to the slightly computer illeterate 18yearold gamer demographic. People who build and tweak their pcs will agree with me i reckon. I remember the days when i was 12 and i saved up and FINALLY got 1gb of ddr ram! I remember the days when i finally got a 9800pro as a hand-me-down from my dad, i remember the days when real enthusiasts went to scrapyards and BUILT their watercooling kits themselves.
