Mullet

My water kit will be fitted shortly and I want to explore the limits of my system without killing it...i am running the FX at a stock 2.6ghz and have x2 1gb sticks of patriot low latency ram which runs at 2-3-2-5...any hints/help you can offer my specific setup would be gratefully received.

That rams gonna suck. I have the same type of low latency pc3200 ram. But then again you have an fx and can just raise the multi without really touchin the mem.

This is true, but simply upping the multi isn't going to do much if the chip isn't a good clocker. Along with that you are going to sacrifice some major memory bandwidth.

It's always best to have good RAM that you can run the lowest possible multiplier possible to reach your cpu's max overclock so that you get a good balance between raw cpu power and memory bandwidth.

Plus, 99% of AMD proccies hate multipliers higher than what they ship with unless you're running some serious voltage and sub-zero cooling.

|3ourne had some of that Patriot and afaik it is a good clocker. The best thing to do is test it.

Divide the RAM to lowest possible (like 133), lower the multi and up the FSB as high as humanely posible (keeping below say 1.65v).

Then up the RAM to 1:1, and start upping the FSB in small increments. Loosen timings and add a few volts to the RAM as needed.

Frag did a guide on this - probs a good idea to read it :)
