OC3D Recommended Systems - Q4 2013

Just power-read this. Hell of a tough job to weed out the listings for these price ranges, cept for the really top-end one I guess cos you can do as you like with Monopoly money.

It's not really open for argument - good guide. Any arguments really would be personal choices, requirements and bargains you can find at the time of purchasing.

Its just a basic guide dude, base a rig around these main points and youll be set

My only complaint about the builds would be to change the processor in the budget build to the Athlon x4 760k as you're using the graphics card.

i would think more along the lines of a fx 6300 and a am3+ motherboard.

Can I ask with the £500 build why a a8 and not a Athlon x4 750k? Same performance as a A10 but with a price tag of £60 in the UK and swap out the board for a matx Gigabyte fm2+ board for the same price as the board picked.

Saved £20

I agree, Ive added a GTX650 Ti Boost to replace the 7790 too

Amazing to see that you guys actually take suggestions for this :)

Probably want to change the following too though:

Finally as the GTX650Ti has been discontinued we've had to look elsewhere for our GPU, and the HD7790 might not be the most powerful card in the world, but the inclusion of three excellent games makes it a very attractive choice. It's a lot of system for £483, and leaves some wiggle room for those of you who would prefer more RAM, or a better looking motherboard.

What I would love to see is a <£300-350 HTPC with an APU, Elite 120/130, Corsair VS350 etc. Maybe fit a 3TB WD Green in there? Cheap components but still from proper brands that will get you a nice PC.

Would be interesting imo.

thinking now i look forward to seeing steamroller based apus hit the shelves next year.

They hopefully will be great for budget rigs, beefier cpu cores and GCN graphics etc.

'EDIT' - Nice upgrade to the sub £500 build, definitely better value there.

Top notch selection TTL you have saved me hours upon hours of trawling individual products and their reviews to find upgrade ideas. CX600 ordered and just deciding on a which case I want now. :)

No love for the 7950/7970 in the mid range, even with recent price chops? I realize it's only a basic guide, but I was surprised to see the 780 in the mid range rig. Not a complaint, just an obviously biased observation. :) I seem to be the only man on earth who found the 7950 to be the best bang for the buck GPU, at least in Canadian pricing terms.

interesting choices..

I'm not sure as to why its always a Corsair case.. I don't know how it is over in the UK, but here in Australia the Corsair cases are a bit of a premium price compared to what they actually are/do. There's a lot of alternatives to Corsair cases, some of which will give you more features for less. I mean, for the high end build do you really need to recommend a 900D?
I would've rather have liked to seen something a bit more different.. IE, a decent full tower case with an AIO cooler with recommendations on replacement fans etc.
I think this is more of a recommendation of individual parts in the price brackets stated rather than an actual system.

Surely you could get a HD7870 for almost the same price as a GTX650 Ti, and with the Never Settle Bundle and Mantle API support (even if no one uses it besides DICE) wouldn't it end up being the better GPU choice?

EDIT: It says you could get a HD7870 for £133.99 while the 650 Ti Boost is £130, shouldn't you suggest people spend an extra 4 pounds for the stronger card?

Yeah I always like following these recommended system posts. Its often a challenge to remain within a limit.

One curious thing however is for the high end system where money is no object. Have you considered the new breed of AMD gfx cards. Particularly the 290x, especially when watercooled. Personally I still choose the 780 due to perfect cooling and Overclocking.

Have you neglected the 290x based on its bad thermals and lack of OC headroom?
