Well the only use your 280 will serve is either as a dedi Physx card or to plug more monitors into. You can't SLI two different GPU models, or, even the same family with Nvidia. You can on ATI, example - a 4870 and 4850, or a 5870 and 5850 etc. How well that works though? no idea, never seen any one try![]()
Also note that the 280 is one hot card. Adding it into a case with a Fermi (depending on the Fermi) is going to turn your PC into a storage heater.
Recently for a laff I put a pair of 3870x2 and a 8800u with two PSUs in the same case. Within ten minutes I was drenched with sweat and my cables had all become quite soft and maliable![]()
It was simply far too much heat. I don't know if this board supports SLI, but you're better off with say a 5870 and pair it up with the 280GTX for some hybrid Physx porn![]()
PS. Tom could you please use a GTX280 if possible for your testing also. I am not asking for an answer here , but making a suggestion.
Friad not on that one, we dont have one and no one has any to blag where its getting a bit old now dude sorry.
Do you have any Idea how the Hydra chip works? You can mix an Nvidia card with an ATI card to improve performance or you can SLI a GTX280 with a GTX480 just like ATI you can XFire a HD5850 with a HD5870. This motherboard has a Hydra chip which will allow this.
when testing the MSI Big Bang Fusion which features Hydra 200, gave it very poor ratings citing the following: Poor drivers, poor game support, small if any performance gain over a single video card, graphical artifacts, unstable gameplay and a high price tag
Also I shouldnt have any heat issues because I took out all PCI blanking plates from my case (to leave more air into my case) , blocked the top ventillation on my case and have 3 high CFM fans in the roof of the case. My case is no longer like an oven now. I will be buying a 140MM Notua 67CFM fan for the bottom of my case which will also help with cooling.
