OC3D lets compared our internet connections

I never realised that Australia had bad internet, but seeing your speeds being so far above the average has surprised me somewhat.
What with Australia being just as advanced as The US, UK etc. i'm surprised the internet infrastructure hasn't been 're-jigged' yet.
And sorry to hear about your ping during a storm :( do you feel the difference, when it happens?

They're currently trying to put through optics... so we might be lucky to get 100/10 but I doubt it. When we have a storm.... just don't use the internet. Might aswell have dial up :(

I'm paying 6Mb/s down 768Kb/s up, I'm quite happy with the speed I got on the wave :P however that joke in my sig...not so much, and the server was less than 50miles away and I'm getting 200ping, however when I play games I don't notice anything, but I've never had faster internet than this.

Try different servers because some are just bad.

See this below

Thats my connection to a closer server to me but its run by fast wireless internet provider.

From what I understand about SpeedTest.net, they choose which server you connect to by the lowest ping.

you can choose to let it auto assign, or you can manually chose a server so you can circumnavigate any known issue servers. as i know some completely rape my speed ratings with approx 50% drop on all scores so i knopw to avoid them lol

Oh ok, fair enough - i've never had any such issues, i've just noticed the 'searching for best server based on ping' message that comes up (or at least words to that effect).

you can choose recommended, which does a ping test, (top left)
preferred sever (where if signed up and logged in) you can predefine a server, (top right) or
hovering over the white dots, allows you to select a random server (see below pic)

the problem becomes more apparant with connections over 50Mb as some servers can't cope beyond that

Ah ok, i've ever only chosen the left option because I figure it shall yield the best results. But, my connection isn't that high to start overwhelming the servers, so that's probably why :P

seeing some of these results make me feel a little better about not having the slowest internet (most likely) in my area, tried a new server little better, not sure how I got that 7.3Mb/s down in the wave though.

The United States and their HORRIBLE CONNECTIONS....
There is only one more package above the one I have, and it's 25MBPS Down (Translates to 20 SMH) and 5 MBPS Upload (Translates to 2.5)
I used to have to live with 2 Down and .5 up....

oh trust me good connections exist here and at fair prices it's just my mom is stubborn and thinks that our 7 year old internet plan is good enough but after showing her some of the results on the wave I've convinced her she plans on getting a 30Mb/s down 3Mb/s up plan that is the same cost as our current one which is cheap, very cheap. The most exspensive available is like 105Mb/s down and 20Mb/s up and this is only consumer grade stuff.

I'm only 17 btw, thats why I'm living with my parents lol.

here's a weird one for you, apparently i have zero latency, lol

i have done several tests and all have come back broadly similar speedtests but all have 0 latency lol
unfortunately i was not logged in to speedtest so couldn't submit it to the speedwave (bah, lol)
