OC3D Exclusive: OCZ prepares Neural Impulse Actuator for shipping next week

From what I've seen the software can assign any keyboard controls to a frequency of brain-wave. In the demo I watched, one wave had three intensities and you walked, ran and jumped depending on how intense your brain-wave was concentrated.

This is from me watching it only, we'll see if we can get a more technical perspective :)

If this does give people an advantage in gaming, then rest assured we will see two types of gaming develop, "classic" with Mouse + Keyboard, and "neural" with gizmos like this. There are people who will defo try and cheat by joining classic servers then having reactions about 100% faster than everybody else using the neural thing lol. People who have spent years honing their WASD skills will no longer be top of the pile, so should be interesting to see how widespread the technology becomes, and what type of games adopt it the most.

Looks like fun. Doubt i'll get one, but my house mate is rolling in it, so i'll pitch it to him.

I assume there is a spelling mistake.
we managed to extract from the conversation that the nia works by reading bioptentials.
which should read "biopotentials".

If it the $300 does equate to £300, i might get my friend to bring one back with him.

This is certainly the beginning of cutting edge technology actually making it into the mainstream...Something that usually doesn't happen that often! Well done OCZ, and the potential for this is far reaching to say the least.

Is it bad that I found out about this via Slashdot? :p Congratulations on that :)

As for the thingie itself, I'd certainly like to try it out, but I wouldn't buy it yet. I'm sure there will be improved versions available by the time I have enough money to get one :)

Haha, the servers did take quite a hammering yesterday thats for sure :p

I found out about it from slashdot ;)

Any word on where I might get myself one of these? I have $300 right now and I want one NOW. not next week. i know i know.

Well I think you're gonna have trouble in getting one NOW (as in today). They go into mass production this week but will probably take another week or longer before they get into retailers hands.

So it could be a couple of weeks before you can click the "buy" button on one.

Haha, I can see it now; "Would you like to install a 3rd party software with your NIA, also allowing the program to send us feedback?". They're gonna harves our brains, for sure!

But seriously, looks cool enough, but I doubt I will be buying one of these, not until further testing and recommendations are out. ;)

there will be a folding plug in for your brain

You can bet that lots of innovative uses for this could develop in general computer usage, not just gaming, still it could be another voice recognition... we all know how many people use that software every day :D

Or find in 10 years time that they cause brain tumors or something only to be swept under the carpet like the mobile phone scare, depending on how big the market becomes.

Haha... this is amazing.. just one step closer to the military training us in full VR, like in MGS .. ahah... id love to have a play with one of those.. however its a shame that a lot of gamers are very unfit :P.... "i could kill you with my mind, your just lucky you could out run me :P "

yeah.. i've made my peace with the fact that i'l probably get cancer :P.. hmm my brain feels warm.. :P

i don't really like the deeper possibilities of this... this connects people's thoughts more with shoot em ups... because i guess you have to really think about shooting people, rather than just clicking your mouse... i dunno , just a thought..

May get one instead of revised 3870x2/GX2.... all my mates saying yeh Wii rocks can do stuff cant do on xbox pc etc etc...

well I can control my games with my head :)

lmao.. This is true :P

Are there any plans to make this compatible with Linux? If anybody knows of any open sourced project, I'd love to work on it.

Well this is certainly interesting but I agree the other one has more of a sci-fi feel but the OCZ one seems less bulky.
