OC3D Challenge: nVidia C51 WON'T OC

I learned from Nepas (thanks!) that I have a HP mobo "with the 6100-6150 nvidia chipset".

I can't get this thing to overclock. The mobo is locked in the bios, and I've tried:

SetFSB

ClockGen

CPUFSB

RightMark

to try and OC the cpu a little bit. None worked. The clock readings in ClockGen never changed, nor did the clock readings in any other programs, nor did the benchmarks from CPU PerformanceTest v6.1. GPU overclocks with RivaTuner, but I see no increase in frames (using Crysis bench utility).

I know somebody here in the home of overclocking can help me out. :)

Specs:

CPU: Athlon x2 4200+

GFX: 7600GT 256MB DDR3 (PowerColor HD4870 on 1/7)

PSU: JustPCUSA 485w (Corsair 650w on 1/7)

RAM: 2x1gb pc3200 dual-chan DDR400

MOBO: nVidia C51

SOUND: Audigy 2 SE

I know I've been power-posting, but I've been spending much more time on my own trying to figure this out to no avail :( Nevertheless, Admins, if you feel I'm out of line, just let me know :)

You need to find out what the clock gen IC on the board is before using any of those programs. And chances are this means talking the side off the case and getting out a magnifying glass.

I would SERIOUSLY recommend you just get a new motherboard.

Thanks for the advice.

However, none of the programs I've used have even allowed me to select the IC...chipset selections have been locked to nVidia C51 etc. Heh, well when I finish basic training I am most definitely going to revamp my computer entirely; for now I just wanted a little boost (which, it appears is impossible on this CRAPPY board). Heh.

The clock gen IC isn't the chipset, its a different component on the board. You need to identify this chip in order to be able to use the likes of SetFSB. It won't be listed anywhere in your mobo specs unless you can find a VERY thorough breakdown. You need to read the chip number from one of the ICs on the board itself.

Just stick with stock till you can upgrade would be my recommendation though, as finding the chip is a lot of hassle and there's no guarantee its supported by the programs anyway.

Hmm, and from what I've seen of this mobo, it's probably not supported as you say.

Then screw it. Heh. I'm just very disappointed in this computer :) But thanks again for your help.
