OC3D 2020 CPU Cooler Roundup

I use a Cooler Master ML240 in one of my PCs... I would not recommend this cooler to anyone. It cools fine. But every few minutes or so, it gurgles.

I also do not recommend most other AIO coolers either. I 3D print a lot of cases, and what I noticed is that for a lot of these coolers, the tolerances on the actual radiator are complete garbage. The holes are not always exact. If you have a case which has variable hole spaces, they should work fine. But if you have cases which expect holes to be exactly 105mm apart, and they are 103mm or 107mm apart instead, you will have problems.

The best tolerances on radiators I have seen are from Deepcool GamerStorm. I highly recommend the GamerStorm Castle 360EX.

I'm impressed at how comparable the 280mm Celsius+ is to the 360mm. Given the £30 price difference, if my case could fit the 280mm rad, I'd just go with that.

In fairness, the ML240 is over two years old now. In that time pumps have improved substantially in terms of quietness. I jumped aboard AIO's a few years ago and found them to be obnoxiously noisy. I moved back to air cooling and have been very happy. But since then Asetek have released a few iterations that across the board have improved noise levels. If I were building a new system, I'd consider an AIO again.

Oddly AMD recommend a 280 for Ryzen 3900x and 3950x. Maybe they have just had more R&D recently? IDK.

It's best for AMD to go overkill on this. That way they won't get any complaints. I also believe that they recommended specific coolers in their guidance, rather than saying that any 280mm+ AIO will do.

Again, AMD needs to be specific enough to prevent complaints.

Mine cools fine but the pump whirs. Mind you, that's all you can hear and that's usually at night in silence. I'm sure once I get back to my noisy flat (with the windows open, I live in town) it'll get drowned out.

With the Corsair A500 air cooler, Yes I know the reviews give it a big "F" but my 3950X maintains 4.10 - 4.20GHz at 76'c during rendering with the fans only at 1200RPM and ingame it averages out at 48'c with the fans at 800RPM so it's not bad, Plus it's whisper quiet, No pump sound is heavenly ^_^

It's not that the A500 is a bad cooler. It's just not as strong as the NH-D15 and other premium air coolers. You can get better value elsewhere.

TBH it has a lot of undue hate. It's not the best cooler ever, but some reviewers love making mountains out of molehills.

It does look lovely.

But yeah, I dumped out loads of my subs recently. "We'll make sure to make lots of content and keep you entertained during lockdown !" translated to "I'm a personality vacuum and without a constant supply of products I can't think of anything to entertain you with apart from remodelling my house".

And they are supposed to entertain. Tchoh.

It's on the heels of the NH-D15 and it looks better, IMO, I just put 2 x Corsair HDRGB fans on it, Hooked them up to the Commander Pro and it performs great and is whisper quiet, Very happy with it but yeah I agree some reviewers were going a bit over the top as it wasn't beating the NH-D15 even though going by UK price it's around £5 cheaper than the black NH-D15 so I'm ok with 3-5'c less cooling performance for vastly better looks, Again in my opinion.

Wait till the A550 gets launched then :p

My Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360R ARGB AIO is coming today proper keen to see how it compares to my NZXT Kraken X62

What is with everyone and pump noise in AIO’s? Has everyone but me experienced it? Since every AIO I’ve earned, all I’ve been able to hear is the air noise produced by the fans, never pump noise

Great test. Surprised to see the Noctua so low down tbh.

Proud owner of D14 here. You can run noctua at full blast, and get those temps. It is not bad at all. But other coolers above it Hell no. 2k+ RPM!!! You need a proper server room ear protection for those. They should come with a potential hearing damage warning. See noise optimized reviews at GamersNexus. Then you see that they aren't that better from noctua.

Then you have the wrong fans.
