I wonder how much of this choice in VRAM was to not undercut their RTX Pro line of GPU.

yes more recent games, but if your buying a new card you'd expect it to be able to open those recent games a bad investment, i think alot of this is to do with segmenting there own line up which outside of the 4090 is fairly pointless as many of the last gen cards are as good or better and even in vram terms, would much rather spend less on an older card that performs as well at a cheaper price take the 3090 vs the 4080 as an example.

Go and buy an ARC. It won't be much slower and has more than enough VRAM.
