Maybe if they'd made it an actual Titan with full Titan features, it would still have a place.

That's just it though. Features. It has none of them. They know it would kill sales of the workstation cards.

If you need the power and memory it's worth it.
It's not their gaming flagship and they have done nothing but repeated that and said it while launching it.
A 3090 for gaming isn't it's use case. It's for people who do professional work and still game and cannot afford a Quadro card.

They have disabled all of the Titan features. So in many professional situations it is slower than the Titan RTX.
They said the 3080 was the flagship. God only knows what that makes the 3090.

It's just ticking boxes. Doesn't need to sell just needs to exist so that Nvidia can point at it and say "look how fast it can go"

From the benchmarks we've seen thus far, yes, the 6900XT is faster than the RTX 3080. Even the 6800XT in certain games could be faster.

Sounds like a good idea.
And the 3090 is boss for what it offers at the price it's at.
Titan/Quattro performance from a card half the price and same amount of VRAM. Because that is important to more than just GAMING....
People who wanted the best this go'round, but could not afford it should just shut their petty mouths.

3090 is a halo product for those with more money than sense, the use cases for a high VRAM card with its feature set are extremely limited.
But it helps marketing and there's always a bunch of people who simply want the best.
Same applies to 6900 XT but its price isn't as outrageous when compared to the next step down. Note how the 6800 XT benches were without AMD's rage mode & SAM, but 6900 XT were posted with. In addition the volume of 6900 XTs they can produce is probably limited - note the bump in compute units without the bump in power draw, they need to be binned chips since frequency is the same.

£1000 for a flagship fully working BIN die is actually great value.
Titan RTX = £2300. Titan XP/p = £1300. The last time a Titan card cost that much was the Maxwell, and it started at around £960.
3090 is £1500 or more. So basically this is £500 less, and in non RT stuff should perform right around the same.

6900 XT is still deep in the diminishing returns, you're not getting much for the $350 more in MSRP when compared to 6800 XT. Same goes for any Titan card. Comparing it to a horrible value card isn't that relevant.
2080 Ti is questionable, it is a fair bit faster than 2080S with a massive premium. I found whole 2000 series a bit awkward, the gap between 2060S and 2080S isn't representative of their price difference either. When you look a bit further back, 960 to 970 meant damn near double the performance.
As for 3080 with 20GB, I doubt there is much benefit in doubling the VRAM. But it will certainly be pricier, probably in ballpark of 6900 XT.

I don't think they will release a 3080 20gb. It will kill 3090 sales. The only thing the 3090 has going for it IMO is that VRAM. It's barely any faster than the 3080.
3090 is just a poor card. It really is. £300 more than a 2080Ti for a power plant in your PC.
I can, however, see them releasing a 20gb Ti card for £1000. Or maybe with Nvidia tax £11-1200. We will see.
