Yes, I agree, since 64 shaders will not make that much of a difference power consumption wise when you consider the size of the chip. The rumored reason might be incorrect, but maybe they have another reason for it. Maybe the card is so good, they don't need all the shaders enabled to beat AMD's top dog.

I don't trust any component manufacturer, these days, to blow all the competition out of the water, kinda like what happened around the launch of Dx10.

I do however hold faith that even if, and I say IF, a Fermi card could do double the work of even a 5970 - they would trim it back to do around 10-15% better and reserve the rest for the GTX4xx range to beat them by a small % again.

It's $$$ over tech for me here.

If you beleive the rumours and the "leaked benchmarks" then it definitely is. But yeah you'll have to wait and see

Iam preety satisfied with my Sapphire 5870 bought it for exactly 250eur (I havent spent more than 250eur for GPU), even this card is overkill for my monitor ... need bigger screen got 19" atm xD

btw i hope to see some official benchmark for fermi, and i hope to see acceptible prize/performance sub 250eur from nvidia.

@ cnf ... sorry m8 cant help you i bought it via my friend (he had a good prize on 5870), i dont know how but he and some of his m8s ordered ~4-5 GPU's and i bought one of those.
