Nvidia will be fixing the GTX 1080's fan revving issues in an upcoming driver update. Nvidia has reported that this fix has already passed their internal testing.

It's just sad when NVIDIA themselves start shipping their flagship card and they haven't tweaked that little thing that is the fan curve... I mean, it's shouldn't be much effort from their side....

Maybe the laziness is cause of the Market Share that nVidia has and they thought they could get away with it.

I don't buy for one second that they have fixed it cause of in house testing, i'm waiting until third parties have tested it and it's fixed and then it would be.

Im quite certain that Nvidia are not resting on their laurels. The GTX 1080 was a huge release for nvidia.
The fan speed issue was a minor bug thats been blown well out of proportion by some groups of people. I had the issue in one of the GTX 1080s i had and it really wasnt a problem at all.
I find it amusing that a lot of AMD fans rant about how terrible the thermal throttling (most dont understand GPU boost) and fan speed issues of the GTX 1080 are and have forgotten about the noisy pump issues that plagued the release of the Fury X and black screen issues that AMD still have not fixed with the Fury cards ( i went through 3 fury X cards before i eventually got tired of the pump noise and put a custom block on it).
I would much rather have a slight problem with a driver than a hardware issue every day.

Haven't had a problem with Nvidia drivers in quite some time plus the fan revving issue can be temporarily fixed with a custom fan curve in either Afterburner or Precision X while the driver is updated.

It's a non issue really.

Forgot about that, It was only with Chrome, No big deal as I use Firefox anyway and it was fixed

You must have been unlucky with drivers, I haven't had one issue.

I wasn't ranting, was agreeing with another comment, from King.
Comparing old stuff and new stuff with issues is pointless. Every hardware component is subject to failure. I and many others have had no issues with the Fury line. I bought one(used but was from launch day) and had zero issues besides the fan having motor noise at certain RPM. Others have. But again that's nature of hardware.
Talking about driver's is a different thing. Having the software cause hardware issues is the problem here and Nvidia drivers in general have been subpar compared to AMD drivers for a while. I'd say a little before Crimson came out. Doesn't mean they suck, just have been doing poor job compared to previous track records and there competition.

I didn't think you were ranting. Is it that nvidias drivers have gotten worse or that since crimson AMD drivers are a lot better. I think the latter may be the case. I still don't think they are on par with nvidias day one game releases. I don't think it's all Amds fault either with so many games implementing nvidias technologies that unfairly penalise AMD cards

Just FYI, superman like AMD. He gets cold at night cause he uses his heat vision too much. The AMD gaming PC helps keep the room nice and warm.


But seriously, how much of the 1080s gains do you actually think came from anything other than the shift to a new process..

nVidia has without a doubt dropped the ball on their driver support. As above in NBDs post, compare their track record. Using their customers as guinea pigs instead of doing more thorough testing is their new policy.

Who knows, maybe nVidia wants to help their fanboys save face by still giving prompt driver releases.
