Nvidia to release WHQL-certified PhysX drivers

So my arguement here is - or question really.

If u have a 8 series or above card and a physx pci card.. in theory u would still want to keep the card as it would assume the less the gfxcard does physx-wize, the more it can do graphics-wize..

But is that entirely true ? and to what extent ?

Some1 will need to do a test, and I`m sure they will.
 
I remember reading a review that pointed out the GPU was the best for dealing with Physx, better than the PPU and CPU. Can't find it right now.

I hope this will breathe a little bit more life into my 8800GT :D
 
I'm waiting for some ATI PhysX drivers to arrive on the scene. Would be pretty insane to have Crossfire 4870x2's and a separate 4870 dedicated to physics.
 
Well, regarding whether it'll increase performance with a single GPU or not, it's not that simple.

As you might be well aware of, usually the speeds of CPU and GPU never really match (and especially not for every game), so one of the two components becomes a bottleneck. If the CPU is the bottleneck in your system (say you got a E420 and a GTX 280) it'll increase your overall performance when your physics processing is done by the GPU. HOWEVER it'll not generally increase your gaming performance because a) not all games use PhysX and b) the games that use PhysX till now only do ADDITIONAL physics effects when enabling PhysX and don't accelerate the "standard" effects by the GPU, which means that when PhysX is enabled, there'll be more particles in general which then decreases CPU-power, too.

It's a rather complicated topic because of that. When game manufacturers had just one "level of detail" for physics regardless of whether using PhysX or not, enabling PhysX on systems where the CPU is the bottleneck will definitely increase overall performance.
 
But when calculating the physics that are calculated regardless of whether you use the additional PhysX-capabilities will increase FPS (if the GPU is not the bottleneck).
 
If i remember correctly this is meant to take the responsibility of the Ageia PPU which only adds eye candy. The CPU still does the "physics" people are thinking about. So in other words depending on the game your just adding alot of extra work to your GPU which is why im some games you drop alot of FPS.
