Nvidia has showcases a GTX 1060 3GB GPU at a Chinese Press conference, though the GPU, in reality, looks a lot more like a GTX 1050 Ti.

The problem here is that 3gb is no longer enough for an upper mid range card, even if the 1060 erm - 1050ti is the low end of the stack, that is still where it stands. As of this generation I refuse to buy a card with less than 4GB of VRAM.

Because it has less cores? Did you read the article? It's not a 1060 with just 3GB of vram. It's a "1060" with less SMX units and 3GB of memory.

In other words it's not a 1060. At all.

Yeah, but you cannot deny that this is being very dishonest to consumers.

They're doing it again. They misled customers with the 970 and they are doing it again now and it will bite them on the ass. People will see the 6gb 1060, then see the 3gb one and assume they are getting the same card for less money with less VRAM.

Hiding things is becoming the norm for Nvidia. TBH they treat their customers with such contempt that I'm not surprised they can't get a foothold anywhere else.

No one is misleading anyone, oh because nvidia are doing it that makes it bad!? Cough! AMD! RX480 comes in 2 flavours too... Like I said no one is misleading or falsifying information, it's all in the open. Now had nvidia just released the card and said nothing then hell people should scream and shout.

No one is lying to you
No one is forcing open your wallet

If people can't be bothered to read or watch reviews or know what they are buying, well that's their own fault.

The RX480 comes with different amounts of VRAM, thus, they are both RX480s. The 1060 comes with two different amounts of shaders, meaning they are different cards. It's like releasing the 1080, then releasing another card that isn't as good and calling it the 1080 also.

Do you think Nvidia will point this out to every one then? like they did with the 970 memory issue?

The 1060 3gb isnt a 1060 with less ram..
it has less cud a cores and has lower Tflops, it just isnt the same gpu at all..
a 1060 3gb should be the exact same gpu as the 1060 but with less ram..
Its like naming the 1080 "titanx 8Gb" when its not the same card.

the 480 Is a 480 its the same everything but less ram.(well in some cases the same ram)

if i bought a computer called a "Hdellp 1000X which was an i7 system with gtx 980 and 16gb of ram." Then i told people im selling it on but with only 8gb of ram. you wouldnt expect me to swap out the cpu for an i5 and the gpu for a 960 and expect you to be happy that im selling it as a "hdellp 1000x 8gb" when the new specs would have made it a "hpdell 800x"

yep if the 1060 6gb was called 1060ti then you could have had the specs they have now for a 1060 6 and 3gb and we wouldnt be having this discussion lol.

Because Nvidia are doing it and have before is why it's bad, this time they quietly just "announced" this. The 480 comes in two flavors yes, but it retains all the same CU's. This on the other hand does not.
They are lying with the fact they are calling it the same thing with less memory but it's not. It should be called the 1050ti 3GB.
Yes productshave label's. Doesn't mean they are right in this instance though.

See that's where you have it all wrong. You assume that people who game on a PC are also interested in technology and want to spend hours and hours reading about things like memory bandwidth, etc. IE - every one that games on a PC is also a PC tech and a geek like most of us here.

Yeah, see, doesn't work like that. Actual PC gamers who only game on a PC and couldn't care what it looks like or what it cost (most of them) couldn't care less and will be easily caught out by Nvidia.
