Nvidia RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti Review

So the 2080 is as fast as a 1080ti but consumes way more power when not using any special features and for Ray Tracing it's a useless card because it can only manage less than 40 at 1440p and at 1080p it just won't be much more. The 2080ti is really the only card to get for Ray Tracing.

Seeing as how used 1080tis are similar in price to a 2080 I'd probably rather get the 2080 and make use of DLSS.

Even a friend of mine over in Texas bought a 1080 Ti for $550, The 2080 costs $800.

Crazy pricing, Although it could be a clever tactic from Nvidia to get people to buy the mountain load of Pascal GPU's that are left instead which I've seen many threads on various forums for "Which 10 series GPU ?" etc...

Well i had my cuppa and watched , my take on this is they are very well put together cards and that is nice to see , and the architecture is so new and from a different perspective it will take time to mature , so for the moment for me that i'm staying put with what i have

Gotcha, I don't think it's worth buying new anymore as most GPU's come with a 3 year warranty and get sold after 1 by the original buyer so it's damn good value.

Well many used cards were for mining. So depending on what is available on the used market at the time you look kinda dictates what's the better buy.

Just have to ask yourself if you get a 2080 over a 1080ti is the DLSS and limited RT support worth it for not only more money but also about 100 Watts more power consumption (which is a lot).

Thanks for the review! The Innovation Award seems a perfect fit.

But that's all it is.

As NBD said, the RTX 2080 draws the same amount of power as a 1080Ti, performs roughly the same, and is £750. The only thing it's done is, add RT capabilities. That's pretty much it.

Nvidia, I applaud your innovation, and I love that you've finally moved past the blower style cooler, but I won't be purchasing your graphics card and have almost no desire to. Even if I had the money, I wouldn't support Turing at its current stage. It's a proof of concept—proof that your engineers are amazing and proof you don't care about consumers enough.

Appreciate the review, it's certainly not been the glowing endorsement across all media that Nvidia was hoping for.


I can say though that if I was in the market for a new GTX 1080Ti I would definitely consider the extra £100 or so for the RTX 2080 a fair price to pay for a slight increase in performance with the extra eye candy that DLSS and ray tracing can bring.


But the RTX 2080Ti is just not even worthy of consideration. Even if money were no object, paying an extra 70% in cash for 25% extra performance is just plain stupid.

True, then there's the part which the 2080 Ti draws a lot more power. And hence being a lot warmer graphics card overall due to it.

You just wait until there is a RT game to load up 100%. Like Metro.... I think these cards will need looking at again.

was looking to upgrade. i run 3440x1440 and a gtx 1080 ftw hybrid. i wanted i bit more performance. just checked my local store and noticed that asus 1080ti cards have now sold out and evga ftw 3. can get a evga sc black edition for £650...or just go rtx 2080...
i'am more intrested in the dlss in the 2080 because that could give it a performance boost......hmmmm 2080 or 1080ti

And so it should for £749 for a pants card with a crap cooler. A decent 2080 will cost you £860+.

Also, I am calling this now. Watch when the new Metro comes out, and these cards turn into Fermi. I am also calling this now too, RT will be a flop because it's PC only, it's too expensive, and it is not compatible with all PCs (due to AMD).

I hate to say that, but those are my predictions, regardless of how they make me feel.

RT this gen is just a tech demo. I am pretty sure that even with a 2080Ti you will not be getting the 50+ framerates that PC gamers want in their games and certainly not at 1440p +

DLSS sounds amazing, but DLSS does not work on consoles. That means a company needs to dev it in just for people on Turing.

I said the problem word right there - consoles. I am no longer buying anything that doesn't also work on a console as that is the only way to fully get the most out of anything.

I'd have been really sad to say that a couple of years ago, even though it has been true for about 15 years. However my Xb1x @ 4k kicks ass. You can't even build a PC anywhere near the same price that can even touch 4k.

I loaded up State Of Decay 2 the other day, switched it to 4k and was blown away by how good it looked from 17ft away. It really doesn't need to look any better for me. And it works, and I don't have any aggro from it at all.

I completely agree dude! Unfortunately many developers are unwilling to go the extra mile for a PC hence the dreaded "Port" word.

However, I like many people here including you am an enthusiast and so as much as I agree with your points, this is my hobby and I am willing to pay for certain things for the times I do get to use it. well maybe not 2080Ti pay for things but 2080 vs 1080ti pay for things lol

I think that's a big element to this. A 2.5 year-old architecture is so ahead of the competition that Nvidia are quite happy to continue to sell them when a newer, more advanced architecture is out. Even if Nvidia hadn't manufactured a boatload in response to the mining craze, I still think they would be selling them side-by-side with Turing.
