I don't see it dying any time soon, I just hope it doesn't run poorly on AMD hardware.Way more than I thought it would be for some time. This bodes well for the technology. Hopefully it continues to be popular and gets more traction instead of dying off after the initial support from these 21 games
There's a few already-released games there. That means that without RT enabled the game should look as it was and run as it did, right?
Oh.My.God. I just saw that Battlefield V ray tracing demo. So cringeworthy.
That's what Nvidia is hyping up so much? A freakin' reflection and lighting tech? This is like Nvidia's push for tessellation all over again. Performance killer that doesn't really look all that different than what already exists. For the love of god don't fall for this crap again, folks.

TBH the reveal of so many titles so quickly shows that Real-time Ray tracing won't just be the fart in the wind that some people expect.
Remember that RTX is Nvidia's software that deals with Ray Tracing for DirectX 12 (via DXR) and Vulkan. There is no reason why AMD couldn't make their own acceleration technology, Nvidia is just ahead of the curve in this regard.
When it comes to "why are they making the games look crap without RTX comments", it must be remembered how normal reflections work in most modern gaming titles. The "screen space reflections" used in most modern games require data that is in the "screen space", if it isn't in the screen space it cannot be used for a reflection. That is why BFV's reflections change so much.

i don´t think anyone thinks that game developers purposely make titles look worse without RTX.When it comes to "why are they making the games look crap without RTX comments", it must be remembered how normal reflections work in most modern gaming titles. Yeah exactly. Most people all of a sudden are going to start complaining about it yet it's ironic because that literally just means even basic RT is far superior to what we previously used.
But people will be people and still say ignorant things
Quite comical reading many of these complaints. Its new tech, what do you expect?
I was in uproar initially, but now I think about it, RT can be the next step into amazing immersion. This is a new direction we are moving in now, so this deserves some credit when it becomes fully utilised.
Can guarantee people will still pay for this like those who paid for a titan then used it for...gaming.
My only issue is the price is a tad higher than i like. had it been £1000 for the card I would say its justifiable. I'm seeing too much hate towards Nvidia in this thread to be honest. They own the market, they can charge what they want.
Personally I would be tempted to purchase one. But I won't be an early adopter anymore. I will wait for better derivatives of the architecture.
This is the first time a new GPU architecture has brought something new that's a visible improvement in a long time now. And the first time I've actually wanted one.
