I'm so glad I bought my GPU when I did.

Are they not increasing their fabrication capabilities out of fear that the increased demand will abate abruptly at some point?
Memory manufacturers like Samsung have invested billions into new facilities that fabricate memory modules, but they won't become active until later this year and next year. Nvidia have no control over this. There's no point in them increasing production of Pascal GPUs if the memory supply can't keep up. Plus Nvidia likely have a new architecture available to release later this year and may not want to ramp up production for a 2 year-old architecture.
If NVidia do release a new architecture this year I think it will be quite limited with only mid range cards (slightly faster than 1080 Ti) available for a long time as there will be no pressure on the company to sell the more expensive to produce high end cards.
I don't think this will change until NVidia find they can no longer sell all they can produce and need to release higher end cards to generate sales. The first half of 2018 is going to be pretty boring when it comes to GPU innovation.
They would release a high end card first. They would make more off limited stock.
Are you on the same wavelength as to what's considered 'high-end'? Some wouldn't consider X70/X80 high-end while others would.
Steve @GamersNexus says Ampere isn't a thing, and he has been saying it for a couple months. We shall see.
