nVidia GTX780 Ti Review

Finally a card worthy of the Witcher 2 maxed at 2560x1600, even if it wasn't tested, but great review as always.

Stay with 780 SLI *clocked at 1202/3402* or swap out for 780 Ti SLI, worth the hassle and money ?

Aren't you the guy running 1080p? How is 300fps on every game anyhow...

it really is a shame that TTL doesn't use witcher 2, it's a gorgeous game and a very demanding one, but i guess only few people can relate to it.

Ive always wondered why ttl does not put the cards under water before other sites. The 290x blocks have been out for a while now.

Im not saying you like one or the other more, just an observation.

You see AMD, this is what happens when you know how to design a cooler. We all know what AMD are going to do now though, they're going to lower the price of the 290x (hopefully let the aftermarket coolers appear as well, I want a 290x toxic edition). If someone(artic etc) releases a cooler designed for the 290x and that option is cheaper/around the same price I'd like to see a comparison.

probably because it is a lot of work, but i am sure that some sort of a comparison is coming up.

780 ti is the better card, but the 290x is £100 cheaper.

TBH that's the exact way business works... you pay more if you want something better :) I personally don't think it's fair to compare the two...

Thanks for all your hard work Tom.

So nVidia have the crown again, 2013 turned out to be a very interesting year for GPU competition. Savour it, because new true next-gen releases aren't going to be coming as quick from now on.

Great Graphics Card no doubt, although I'm left wondering what the 290X would do if the cooler wasn't holding it back. Maybe good custom coolers would see it compete more effectively and force nVidia to drop the price of the 780ti?

Sadly though even while I can't deny I'd like a 780ti and even though I could afford it, I can't justify it given my gaming resolution. I reckon a R9 290, or maybe a 780 would be the better buy for me. Although I'm thinking I might hold on to my 7950 for another while, don't really need to upgrade yet.

yep fair call there.

I still think under water a 290x will be a better bet though. Time will tell

Get another 7950 if you feel the need for more grunt. They're cheap and considering two 7870xts are as fast as a 780 it seems like a logical idea to me.

I've never even considered going for a multi-gpu setup, given the issues they can present (micro-stutter etc.), but it'd be interesting to at least try one.

You've sown the seeds of more temptation. Damn You!

water blocks are not compatible

hey tom i want to bring this to your atention.

EK Water Blocks said this;

ATTENTION ATTENTION! EK-FC Titan (SE) water blocks are not compatible with the latest reference design NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780 Ti graphics card. Read more: http://bit.ly/17GOKjg

in your YouTube video you say; the TI can fit the water block from the titan.
but ekwb said; it not compatible.

so maybe an thumbnail in video?

Fantastic review Tom. Love the fact that it performs so immensely with the stock cooler.

Loved the dig at console players at the end of the video!

And I'm sitting here with a 6870 :P
Great review, I want to say I'd get the AMD if it were my money but I just can't (at least until we see a WC comparison for the two).

had a 6870 as well, it's a great card :P
Get a card based on what it delivers, not based on which camp you like best.

I do feel sorry for all the people that bought the Titan though, everything from the 780, 290/x and now the 780 Ti is just a slap in the face to the people that spent £800 on it.

I guess those who have the Titan have deep pockets though so they won't be bothered. Has anybody on this forum got a Titan? I don't think there is..?

Alpenwasser has a titan i believe.

Yup, I have a Titan. But don't worry about me too much, I was quite aware that the
Titan was never worth the money (at least IMO) unless you needed (and I actually
mean need, not want) one absolutely right when it came out. I bought it because
I wanted one and could afford it, and I was never going to use it for gaming, it's going
to be put to use for computing.

TBH I haven't played any games in more than a year IIRC, just don't care too much
about it at the moment. More interested in coding and building. Ever since switching
to Linux I haven't gamed on a PC (which was what, seven years ago or so?), the
few games I have played were on my PS3 (nope, I do not believe it's superior
hardware to a PC, nor do I believe my 1080p TV is "bigger" than my 1920x1200,
but my little console has served me quite well for the past few years; the few titles
I have bought and enjoyed were PS3 exclusives anyway, so I'm pretty alright with
that investment). Having said that, if I ever get the money for some really epic
multi-screen setup things might look very different again. ;)

Anyway, ontopic: One thing I must say is that the name 780 Ti is utterly
stupid IMO. Call it what it is, a Titan Ultra or something like that. Seriously
Nvidia, what have your PR guys been smoking? It still is a pretty epic card, of
course. :D

i like 780ti a heck of a lot better than titan ultra, that just sounds like some item stolen from the power rangers.
i really wonder what happens to the titan now. 500$? cancelled?

Yeah, now that I think about it, Titan was never really a very good name to begin
with. But it has proven very marketable, so there's that. Still, even if Titan UIltra is
bad, I still think 780 Ti doesn't make much sense. I would have preferred numerical
names through the entire product line anyway (so, Titan => 785, 780 Ti => 785 Ti
maybe?). Ah well, I'm certainly never going into marketing, that's for sure.
