Nvidia GTX1070 Founders Edition Review

On overclockers prices of FE cards are around £399 with custom designs going for around £430
I was hoping for a price of £370 of custom cards... 370 I would pay, but 430 seems too much. Now I am thinking EVGA superclocked for £578 maybe is better on overclockers

Nice review.

I'm really looking forward to the 2x GTX1070 review on 4k. I wonder if that setup would make sense. I'm also very thankful to you TTL for the nerd-porn bit. It really makes me happy to see that my EK-WaterBlock will fit on a 1070 too. ;)

Yeah. I was also hoping for some cheaper prices.

I really want to know why people are getting such low numbers benchmarking Shadow of Mordor. Are they not using its built in benchmark? This is 1440p with 2x EVGA GTX 680 Classified. I should be on par with a 970.. according to your benchmark I match a 1080.

Edit: Even in a more objective benchmark like Valley, I come out nearly on par with a 980ti on your charts, as on most other peoples reviews for the new cards. This really makes me hesitate about these new cards. I was expecting even a 1070 to be a massive boost over my current SLI setup, as I expected to be on par with a 970, in game where SLI scales properly at least.. but now..

For further reference, my full specs are a 1440p monitor, EVGA GTX 680 Classified's (4gb) in 2-way SLI, i5-3570k OC'd to 4.6ghz, 16gb DDR3 1600. Also, I am not on Windows 8 like that last one says. I'm on Windows 10 Pro Insider Build 14342.

I'm not entirely sure where you are going with this. My 970 on Valley at the same settings @1440 as you have run, even at stock is massively above your score. :

Your score is almost the same as a 980ti @4k which is obviously a huge leap up from 1440.

I was referring to this chart. Look at the dark gray bars, not the light gray ones. I ran it at 1440p Ultra 8xAA. I fall right between a 980 HOF and a reference 980ti on that chart.

Edit: You didn't turn on the 8x AA, thats why yours is so much higher. Could you run yours with the 8x AA and let me know what you get please?

After a short while with mine I can confirm that they are excellent cards. I'm quite comfortably ahead of 980s in SLI (see my firestrike score with no overclocks). The higher the resolution the bigger the gap. I have no temperature issues at all despite my case. Infact the worse performing of the two cards still doesn't hit its thermal limit and maxes out on the factory boost clock. Not bad for an SLI setup in a case with one intake fan.

Weirdly one of my cards seems to be a beast. Its currently running at a max of 72c full boost clocks. I'd push it further if the other card wasn't a comparative pig.

These cards are already proving to be the best Nvidia products I've ever owned. Admittedly I've not had a massively positive experience with Nvidia until now though.

Must be something wrong with that graph then as you are definitely not matching a 1080.
