We now have some GPU-Z Screenshots of the GTX 980Ti which pretty much confirms the specifications of the upcoming GPU. Lets hope the price is right.

If they handle this the same way they handled the GTX 670 (a lot cheap than the 680, similar performance), they have a real winner on their hands. Can't wait to learn more.

Good article although I don't think Ti should stand for Titan Irrelevant ^_^ , 256 more CUDA cores and 6GB extra memory do come into play especially at 4K.

Through my testing most games easily pass the 6GB mark at 4K with some like COD:Advanced Warfare actually surpassing 10GB at 4K.
 
But can't that be cause of the game having so much VRAM to utilize, that it kinda "uses more than actually needed", so to speak?... If you get what I mean?.

Plus, seems like you're really trying to defend your baby and getting people into the Titan X, rather than the 980Ti :p

Could be yes, All I know is that playing games at 4K has never felt so smooth :)

Not defending just educating, Most of the people who say stuff like "Titan Irrelevant" are either those who haven't ever owned one or have only reviewed one and not used it for more than a week i.e reviewers, Testers etc...

Having seen the whole frame buffer used up in 4K testing on quite a lot of games including the one I'm trying now, COD:AW which sees an average of 10GB and max of 12GB used with decent performance has me thinking the 6GB on the 980 Ti may cause some stutter in similar 4K scenarios.
 
It is going to be interesting to see how well the 980ti sells as the Titan X is selling really well and people are still buying it despite the fact that there is the 980ti waiting in the wings.

At 4k with it all maxed out GTAV uses a measly 3.4gb on my Titan Blacks. I've never gone anywhere near the full 6gb.

It varies a lot from game to game.

I forget which one it is now but I tested one yesterday at 4K that only used 2GB, Was actually surprised :)

Load up a copy of Watch Dogs and max it @2160p, apart from using more than 6gb you will be lucky if you get 35 fps on a pair of Titan Blacks.

COD AW? I'm pretty sure it has memory leak issues which is why it keeps so much goddamn vram used. There's no way any game currently should use 12GB. I think AC Unity and GTA V would be the top two. COD? Nope. Hell Witcher 3 doesn't even use that much and that game has loads more to keep in the memory pool.

Most games I've tried now apart from TW3 easily get to 5-6GB example in the pics below from Dragon Age:Inquisition maxed out at 4K with and without AA.

Exactly, still nowhere near 12GB! I was merely saying no game should consume that much memory. It's most likely memory leaks for that game. 6GB of memory now a days is becoming more common.

I have seen upwards of 8GB used in certain games at 4K though, I think it's best to have more memory than you need just incase situations like COD:AW using upwards of 10GB etc...

Game engines love to use as much memory as you have, that's why many games these days are consuming so much.
