Nvidia explain the benefits of their G-Sync HDR technology

G-Sync HDR monitors are going to be very expensive, I'd hazard a guess that they will be more expensive than current G-Sync monitors and they will probably live side by side as not everyone wants to shell out a kidney for slightly better colours and if suddenly only the super expensive HDR G-Sync monitors are available well then people may end up looking at alternatives.

Yeah, it will be the same as FreeSync 2, not a replacement for the original but a brand name to show that it has greater capabilities.
 
So for the image Nvidia used to try and show the difference between HDR and SDR I have to say I kinda prefer the SDR image because to me the image just looks like it should have a darker color pallet and I feel as though the contrast in HDR ruins it.
Is that to say I am not excited for HDR? No I am and I would probably buy an HDR monitor if it was reasonably priced, though first I think I would have to upgrade my GPU because I don't think the 390 has the right ports to support HDR content.
 
Does it only support HDR10? And did they reduce latency issues like FS2 is trying to with HDR?

I think a head 2 head article comparison would be cool? If we know enough about them at least.
 
Use SweetFX to emulate HDR, it works very well.

This is just another cash grab and most people can't afford the GFX cards to drive 4k monitors at reasonable FPS numbers. Also, nVidia hasn't even released a card that can even get close to 4k at 144Hz refresh rate, I don't care if it has G-Sync. lol
 
How come that I was able to see a difference in those demo-shots where they explained the difference between HDR and SDR on my crappy non-HDR (SDR) office monitor at work? If this monitor could render this image in its full fidelity, why bother with HDR? Something is missing here, just thinking... :rolleyes:

They exaggerate the colours, Contrast etc... to give an idea of the amount of difference you would actually see.

Having seen HDR myself I wasn't sold.

Then you haven't seen proper HDR^_^
You need HDR source AND TV/Monitor/Proper HDR Gamut Range. Otherwise it don't work.

My cousin has one of those LG Signature series TV's with HDR and played some HDR content on it, It was nice but not something I would go out of my way to buy.

They desaturate the SDR version to try and demonstrate relative improvement. It's not actually HDR.

The current HDR offerings are no where near the spec of Rec.2020.

In addition, I am fairly sure there is no HDR content(including games atm). Only a select few have seen such things...

Basically though, find a beautiful movie. Like the last Hobbit for example, watch it on an OLED TV. Get the nerdgasm, but then realize, adding HDR, would make it soooo much better. Get the next nerdgasm:p

Multiple rolls of tissue would be needed, Just 1 nerdgasm can be quite messy, Multiple would be worse than the Fukushima tsunami ^_^

Amazon have HDR content, e.g. Grand Tour.
If your TV recognises the HDR source it can improve the contrast to some degree.
Again, it's not exactly pushing the boundaries of HDR though. For terrestrial TV to be HDR, we'd need to move over to HLG (hybrid log gamma) spec so that it's viable to actually send it over the air. The current way is very bandwidth heavy.
