Nvidia drivers.... WTF!!!

I haven't had an Nvidia card for a couple of years now as when the 295 came out, it went straight back as it was faulty. I bought a 4870X2 instead.

I have just bought a GTX 570, installed all the drivers and software crap and went to set up my display profiles. I know Nvidia's solution wasn't as good as what ATI's have become as one click of a button switches my monitor to my TV and switched the sound over too.

I figured Nvidia would have probably improved theirs by now but how f'in wrong was I. Instead of improve it, they have removed it. When it didn't work on Windows 7 for them, rather than fix it, they just removed it.

I believe they have now got a working version of it, but they are only releasing it with their Quadro cards. I am seriously unimpressed.

Ah the age old tv out issue.

I can remember back when I had a pc with a 7600GT that I used to have a desktop on a monitor and a tv output so I could lauch a film on the desktop and it'd play automagically on the tv.

I can also remember the article in the back of nVidia's faq pdf file, that may still be there for download, that between them and microsoft, they'd decided that it interfered with some kind of drm thingy-doofrey and microsoft had a big part in wanting it stopped. As soon as a level of driver release came out, for the 8xxx series I *think* nview had all but lost it's use.

(you could ofc still drag your player to the tv and expand it to fill the screen, which seemed to negate the reason for them taking it away)

If memory serves, there may well still be a ranting back'n'fore between Kemp and myself as to wtEf they made the changes !

Still, it had to go for "some reason" and it's gone.

I read a bit more on it and when Vista came in the software would have needed re-writing from the bottom up as the way the OS dealt with the displays was different or something. Anyway they wrongly assumed that nobody wanted display profiles or even to span their image over multiple monitors and didn't bother. They only bothered on their Quadro cards which will run the software happily on Vista and Win7.

Sucks arse.
