Nvidia claims that its RTX 2080 Max-Q is more powerful than a next-generation console

I'd suspect performance of a RX 5700 out the consoles. So he's probably not wrong though it's also probably not far off if it's a Max-Q variant.

Considering a laptop with a 2080 Max Q costs easily double what the next gen consoles are projected to cost, I'd damn well hope it could.

This is also true. It'll be interesting to see the GPU power levels of next gen consoles. Both will effectively use identical CPUs. It's gonna be down to GPU once again like last launch. Wouldn't surprise me if it's a case of 5700/5700xt or even closer for both.

They really should both be using the best available, I hope Microsoft don't once again go down the less powerful route for some gimmick.

Rumours are the 1x will be re released as their lower end console.

Makes sense.

Nvidia desperate for attention again I see /rolls eyes.

I disagree. No console player will pay $1000 for the best. While yes I'd love to see the best available at a cheaper price because of mass production, etc, just not feasible.

A 5700/xt is a massive step up already from the original HD7850ish launch. It'll probably even be lower. To cut costs for SSD and memory.

That's not what I meant, I should have been clearer, I meant they shouldn't put parts in that are obvious cut downs of higher end parts to save money i.e the OG XB1 vs the PS4, PS4 had some quite distinct advantages over the XB1 in graphics, FPS, Res etc... even though they were both using the same CPU and GPU architecture until the Pro and X revisions came out.

I'd say it will easily quadruple the price of the consoles. The chip itself probably costs more to the manufacturers than the consoles will cost consumers.

This guy is such an annoying c**t. Does he think that people buy consoles because of how powerful they are?

Quick! Someone tell Nintendo not to bother with hardware anymore.

He sees them as the threat they are.

I wish him luck, he will need it.

Jensen is just in damage limitation mode.
I'm amazed he knows the performance of Sony's and MS console designs
We haven't even seen rDNA V2 on the desktop yet either.

If MS specs are accurate then it's quite jump even over the 5700xt consider that is a 9.75Tflop part

Nvidia also have the most to lose consider their gaming tech is all.but trapped in the consumer AIB market (don't really count the Tegra in the Switch)

The 5700xt is only a 9.75Tflop part and based on rDNA/Navi, if MS specs are accurate they are delivering a 12Tflop part based on rDNA V2. So he really doesn't have a clue

I can see what will happen, nvidia will keep making the current crop of super cards then release 3xxx series at vastly overpriced sums I really hope AMD start getting something good out the door that performs a little better with DXR then we have real choice but for me anything over £500 really is a bit much tbh I just can't justify that cost really but my next card will support DXR and while my 970sli does ok the support for sli is horrid atm and I don't see it ever changing whats worse is I feel really bad for anyone that got the newer cards in sli with nv link cause no doubt they are even more annoyed.

I might well pick a PS5 if the price is right but tbh I want to break away from nvidia i don't like there marketing and price gouging I mean really when the 2080ti first came out it was like £1200 really is sickening custom model £1400.

I got my 970's new and they still weren't anywhere near that kind of price if they really think people are going to get an overpriced nvidia card instead of a console along with a whole new system they are dreaming, that is my biggest issue with nvidia they talk utter bull in there marketing it's so cringe worthy to listen too.

All there tech is ok like physX and all them kind of things but they never amount to anything meaningful in gaming they never get a foot hold and become main stay reason to buy that brand of card, sure that tech trickles out but i honestly feel if your buying a card for RTX which is just nvidias version of DXR, it's a waste of time your far better to wait for it to be mainstream and on everything than buying quickly to get it.

For me I'd like a midrange card thats DXR and cyberpunk for under 500 give me that and I'm all in but atm it's just not worth touching nvidia, it's first gen tech and if you were someone that has a 1070 upto 1080ti then just wait I know I am and I'm very much interested in the PS5 and I've been PC only for about 12 years now.

Haha
What an idiot, for the price they're charging it dam well should be. Adding this gpu to a laptop will cost about the same as an entire console.
