i mean remember the 4870 and the gtx280 if you remember ati ruled too! but when they found out that the 280 kikked its butt people soon went quiet about ati

While not always the case, I have to say I'm with Rast on this one.

Get over it people, every company bull****s in one way or another and as above, it’s just a prop.

All part of the GFX card release drama we see each year.

I couldn’t care less if he held up a turd and tried claiming it was the new card as long as when it does come out it performs well. If it doesn’t then I’ll slate them.

I like the fact ATI are already out with their cards and turning up the heat on Nvidia, but as this is completely new architecture from Nvidia, that may be why it’s taken them a little longer?

What will make me laugh though is that if this is a jump in performance similar to that of G80 then everyone will soon start creaming themselves and saying how good they are again and that ATI are going to go under.

Well there's fanism and being silly.

I use both camps for stuff, but it's evident to myself @least that things are getting sillier and sillier. - A row and aggrovation over a prop held on a stage. Cries of "it's not looking very good" "things are going downhill fast". A - - prop !

The scary Thing

The scary thing for me about this article is that Nvidia could not show a model and had to show a prop.

Does that not imply that the card is still in heavy developement and not going to see the light of day for months yet?, surely there was some kind of sample they could have shown?

Seems weird that they can show figures on how the card will perform but can not show the card itself. I could understand this if they were still working on the aesthetics of the card but they could have been honest about that.

I currently have an ATI card but i do not lean either way but kudos to ATI as I think there marketing Guys over the last months have really put Nvidia's marketing to shame.

I dont think this will signal the end of Nvidia but I do think that ATI have taken a hefty bite of the green apple and its gonna take alot of work for Nvidia to regain this share, specially when they treat us with this kind of contempt.

It has no meaning, it has no relevance. It may aswell be a plastic mold u know some1's going to have in a bag and spring it out to show a design. The main thing ur looking at, which is a Tesla card, is what the cooler looks like. The Tesla card not really being the models the majority, here atleast, are interested in.

There could have been an AMD card under the cooler, it would have made no difference when being flashed to an audience.

Bear in mind also, as with the yield scam, this could all be poo-poo'd just as easily.

Too busy putting cash away myself to be scared.

In that case they should just said it was a real card, how would any1 have known?

Or they could have just said "here is how we envisage the card looking" or they could have just shown pictures.

I do agree that this is not such a big deal, but if they had worded there presentation correctly they would not then have to issue a statement saying that the card was not a working model.

LMAO, it increasingly makes me giggle how the desperate are so quick to turn anything nVidia related into an aggressive anti-news story.

The card held up, with a name on the side of it, didn't work !!

"FAKE!", lies, shock and horror !! Hide ur children !!

It's a prop for crying out loud.

It's much more than "just a prop"!! It's the meaning and intentions behind the false words that are so very objectionable! You trivialize Nvidia failed attempt at deception and its obvious consequences. How can you??

Huang flat lied implying a working unit. 3 days after, Alibrandi came on top to do some damage control admitting it was an "engendering sample", which again imply a WORKING beta unit, and it was not. They lied, then lied again with different words so the gullible would accept it as fact. This was a badly put together, unconvincing non-working mockup, period. That's the truth.

Until that point, it was bad but it was limited to Nvidia credibility. They are stupid, acted like it and the have been caught doing it. Fine with me. They shot themselves in the foot twice and that's about it. Not so much of a big deal.

What is REALLY bad is Alibrandi pushing the fermi based tesal numbers as fact just because they showed a video of it. You see, THEY choose not to show a working board with soldered wires coming out of it, it would have given a "bad impression of an unfinished product", which is exactly what it is at this stage of development. It would also have confirmed Nvidia WON'T be able to ship a finished product by the end of the year, but much more likely only in Q2 2010!!! They couldn't just go on stage with nothing in their hands either claiming fermi numbers are real. So they thought "no one will notice, we will go with a mockup, tell everyone it's real, then the fermi-tesla numbers will be that much more credible and reinforce the certitude of a Q4 2009 launch". That's called deception and disinformation.

The obvious goal of all this was:

Don't buy ATI 5000 series just yet, we have a faster product for you in just 3, short little months. We have this working card and those real numbers on the video to support our claims. Now that we have established those "facts", you realize that you can't go buy an inferior ATI 5000, right?

That is far more problematic than "just a prop".... And you are OK with that? You actually bought that? It was not a fermi board, it was not even an engineering sample but when Alibrandi tells you, no, INSIST the numbers are real, but won't produce a working PC pumping the data in real time, just after lying in your face twice, it STILL doesn't bother you?

I have a question for you: What will it take for you to wake up, stand up and denounce unacceptable corporate behavior??

I wouldn't have cared if they showed a mock up or a sample with wires everywhere.

It really doesn't take that long to get a full production card out of the factories. They are already geared up to produce and are simply awaiting the last designs.

It makes no difference to the fact that when I next look at getting a new card I'll just look at the latest comparisons and buy the best or if you don't have the bucks, the best you can afford.

I have to be brutally honest, u either have a personal vendetta against the company for whatever reason or u just don't understand how such corporate conferences work.

It's really not worth any arguement on the matter, as I've said, ur being silly and I'll leave it at that.

Other than to add nVidia did state they're after ur 1st borns and any virgins u may have in the village. It may be a governing right as an official body, even tho u may not agree, but it is written within the rights of the localized constitutions that the spoils go to those who are in office get to do just that. There was a democratic vote.
