Nvidia 7nm Ampere architecture reportedly boost performance by 50% and halves power

Last nights 5600XT is a 5700 with less VRAM/BW at $279 (£210 direct conversion)

Need to see 4k results. If it can't out Xbox an Xbox it's too expensive.

By rights a £300 pc should be able to do so but that's not going to happen.

Fair enough, though even besides all the cost saving techniques consoles can deploy as a result of not requiring a modular platform, they're also sold on razor thin(Sometimes even non existent or negative) margins, so tbh I'd say getting within 30% for a full build would be an achievement(And that's not including OS), since you're not buying a gaming system, you're buying a full PC with everything else that comes with it capability wise, and all those lovely little slots inside so that you can rip it apart and throw new things in at your leisure.

True.

Most ITX pcs don't allow that luxury though. They're no more expandable than an Xbox. Xbox os is pretty much Windows too, and you can use internal and external ssds. I've not bothered yet.

I think the closer the next gen get to a full on pc the better. All it needs is a decent browser tbh.

Also bear in mind that Xbox environment has a much better advantage over pc in that the architecture is streamlined to be fully optimised for one system. It does not need to cater for a plethora of cpu's, memory and timings, GPUs, etc.

We can see how well an optimised PC will perform when you look at games like Witcher 3. But you are right. we need this gap to close and make PC environments improve their price v performance. At the moment its astronomical... I haven't bought a pc game since D2 released on Steam. Thank god XGP allows me to enjoy both XB1x and PC worlds together.

Absolutely. There's no way for example that RDR2 would ever run like it does on a £300 PC.

Microsoft need to capitalise on that, and make their next console even more pc like. Like, make a kB and mouse and sell separately and give it a decent browser.

It would sell in droves if they could do that, as it'll slaughter anything pc wise comparable in price.

Well M/kb already exists for Xbox and there have been outcries that it creates an unfair advantage in FPS titles for the masses still on controller. So titles are not actually supporting them intentionally.

Yeah and most of ms titles now work on pc also.

It needs a sort of official kbm though, and needs to be more of a pc in drag imo.

Aren't many of these games using/getting controller based matchmaking anyway now? Also bc of the crossplay with PC and Xbone on a few Xb exclusives. I know the new CoD uses controller based matchmaking because of crossplay, which is great because it also makes using a controller on PC viable.

Still, the main point regarding value proposition really for me is that an Xbox will never run Win32 apps. No matter how many features they throw on an Xbox, I still need a powerful PC to run Win32 apps anyway(So the money I'd/someone in my position has spare for a console is exactly equal to the money I'd have spare for a dGPU). I agree if you just want a pure gaming system though, you're not making many sacrifices going with the consoles now, and that this difference should continue to diminish.

I can't see myself going back to consoles, but I doubt I'll be doing much in the PC space beyond my next project.

I want to get into liquid cooling, and would rather spend money on that than Nvidia/Intel, so my project this year is to build an R5 3600/RX 5700XT rig to run my 3440x1440p100 panel (I've already picked some odds and ends over the years here). Once that's done I expect it will last years before I really need to upgrade again, if I ever bother. I could just throw some blocks on my current R5 1600/Vega 56, but I would really like just one last power bump before I potentially get priced out of the market.

After that my disposable cash will probably start going into HEMA gear and weapons.

RX 5700 is about 440 EUR here. The cheapest 5700XT is 505 EUR. I don't expect a 5600 XT to be less than 370 EUR in my neck of the woods. ASUS ROG Strix 5700 is 635 EUR and 5700 XT is 705 EUR.

I don't know what the hell these people expect. It's cheaper for me to order one from anywhere on the planet and pay for the delivery. I sure as hell am not paying that much for a mid-range card in the same year when next gen consoles are supposed to be released.

The 5700XT launched at $450 for reference, so it should be a tad over half whatever a 5700XT was at launch for you.
