Nvidia 7nm Ampere architecture reportedly boost performance by 50% and halves power

Yeah for raytracing performance these kinds of gains are roughly what we'd expect, probably even a little more for pure RT. For traditional shading, probably not best to expect any more than any previous recent jumps(~30% ish) (Though this will be EUV based 7nm, much more EUV in play here on Samsung's node than on TSMC's 7nm+, but depends how they allocate out that die area to the unit types). I wouldn't bet against there being some heavily RT focused games(Which could be the lions share of new AAA games for the next Christmas season) that bear out numbers in this ballpark.

According to Gamer Nexus, GPU prices this year are going to rocket astronomically due to shortages.

if current flagships are priced as they are now.. what happens with next gen!

If that's the case I may actually just get a PS5 and call it a day for PC gaming, I only got a 2080 Ti FE because I got lucky and a family member helped, No way I'm spending over £800 on a GPU for minimal gain over a console, Yes I said it, AlienALX can back me up with that claim ^_^

You meant to say that mommy bought you a 2080ti ?

Like most I expect these to be priced stupidly high, well over £1400 for the reference model with the likes of Asus Strix and MSI Gaming X types being over £1600.

It really is pushing me more and more towards console only gaming because AMD are not competitive in the GPU market, yeah sure the rumours of the 5900xt sound good but the cost I reckon of those is going to be over £1k.

Prices of components are getting out of hand these days, I use to do a full upgrade every year for around £1500, now that won't buy you a CPU, Mobo, Ram and GPU if you want top end.

No, Grow up.

I'm expecting the 3080 Ti FE to come in around £1500, I'd never be able to justify that with how little difference there will be visually between next gen consoles and next gen Nvidia GPU's, Even looking now at an XB1X running RDR2 and then running it on PC the differences are there but they are so small the difference in price negates it.

I think it will be default 1500 + more for the AIB or high end.

I also think im about to be inducted into the "purchase previous gen at lower cost" club from here on.

If AMD can come in at original 1080 Ti launch pricing with their high end Navi part then AMD may be the way to go.

Well if they release a 2080ti performance level part and it's at 2070 super prices I don't see any reason to go to AMD. If they really can halve the power and increase performance by another half, AMD is screwed. Sure they may get more expensive but then still even the lower end parts will get massively upgraded. A $200 card could perform at 2070 non-super speeds. That's insane.

All depends on how they launch them. It'll be most expensive first obviously like always but it's worth the wait and I can't see AMD being able to compete here.

I've been more impressed by Gears 5 and Red Dead 2 on a Xbox 1x and 4k monitor than any PC game in ten years including anything RTX.

It's all relative. It's so nice to have no expectations and then to constantly say "wow" over and over again.

Give me next gen consoles any day. PCs need humbling again back to where idiots like Jen don't act like rock stars.

These cards are not only for gaming enthusiasts. I think content creators bought more 2080 Ti than gamers. I read somewhere that new-gen maybe 100 dollars cheaper than 20xx cards.

For gaming at 1440p and 144Hz, 3070 will probably rock.

If AMD (or maybe Intel) doesn't step up the cards will be expensive. But I expect them to stomp everything.

I have yet to be wowed by anything on PC as much as I was wowed by God of War and Spiderman both on PS4 Pro the latter of which I played recently, If this trend continues of PC being vastly more expensive for not really much more eye candy, Some of which you have to do pixel peeping side by side screenshots of to see the difference, Then I can see myself halting my PC spending and only upgrading when I absolutely need to and getting a PS5 next Christmas.

Yup. Let's not forget, both next-gen consoles will be backwards compatible with previous gen titles. Xbox is already backwards compatible with some games from the 360 era and it offers even some of the original Xbox games. So it's not like in the old days when you're buying an empty box with nothing but launch titles. Add to that the insane pricing of PC parts and the fact that game sales aren't what they used to be 5 years ago, and the prospect of going full console peasant becomes a lot more attractive.

And I almost forgot - Epic paying to withhold games from other storefronts and catering to publishers whilst screwing over consumers. It's infuriating. So kcuf that tihs.

What about midrange? The RX 5700XT is a seriously solid product, and the R5 3600 is bangin'. For 1080p/144Hz, they're perfect. And for 1440p/90Hz, they're perfect. The consoles are not out for another year. We don't know what hardware will be available by then for PC gamers. The 5700XT will definitely not be €400-450 come Black Friday 2020, and an R7 3700X could be found for €200.

When prices drop on the Navi cards they'll get my recommendation but I still think they're too expensive.

£300 is where they need to be, because you can buy a whole XB1X with games for that much.

The 3600 on the other hand is a hands down winner.

This !

Having recently played RDR2 on an XB1X on a 4K TV, I was really impressed, With next gen consoles it will only get better and minus various niche options on PC I can see PC waning in popularity especially as the prices keep going up and up and people have less and less money to throw around.

This is why AMD and Intel need to step up in the GPU space. Nvidia has had the lead for too long. I really hope RDNA 2 has some big enhancements and not just raytracing.

Last nights 5600XT is a 5700 with less VRAM/BW at $279 (£210 direct conversion)
