nVidia 780I and 790I- the story so far.

The 780I is a bodged 680I with extra bits bolted on, and a lesser SB than a FULL 680I, so dont expect miracles yet- maybe the non-reference designs will be better? They'll still be Frankensteins though- nVidia havent released an upgraded chipset...see below

AFAIK the BR04 is the PCI-E2.0 capability.

nForce 780i SLI using NF570-SLI MCP chip, but nForce 680i SLI is using NF590-SLI MCP chip, the only difference is their name. They have no huge difference in their functions.

780i SLI canceled one 4Pin D type 12v power connector beside the memory slot of the 680i SLI.

vague summary- same s**t, with extra bits.

rumour has it the 780I works very differently to 680I, but cant comment on how...coz I dont know.

Disappointing - will not be rushing into one of those thats for sure.

Cheating gits - at least dick turpin wore a mask.

Why dont the call it the 'NF5 Anabolic Intel Edition' - Sprouted more bumps than the elephant man and as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

When will they release a new chipset that ticks all the boxes - maybe even as a well thought out solution rather than add more things that can go wrong (no doubt with countless BIOS/Driver updates/Patches to cover them up)

Such a shame that a once premium Mobo chipset maker back in the old 939 days has come to this - Intel guys must of shat themselves with laughter when this was shown to them.

Unofficial, unconfonfirmed and totally fabricated source was quoted as saying 'lads, I think we shafted Nvidia on the license agreement good and proper, wait 'til you see their 'new' board!!!!' - sadly that source cracked two ribs, burst a blood vessel in his forehead and suffered an asthma attack from the prolonged laughter - doctors expect him to make afull recovery if kept away from anymore hillarous NV news of 'new' stuff :)

Analogy - Nvidia chipset - the MG Rover of Mobo's - facelifted, but still the same scabby dog underneath

I sense anger and bitterness there, though I cant really say I blame you.

Well...in all honesty, NF4 (and NF3) was a breeze to work out because AMD had the memory controller part dealt with. All nV (or VIA!) basically had to do was deal with the connection between the CPU and the expansion slots (ok... a very simplistic way of looking at it, but close enough to true.)

No-one will understand an Intel chip like Intel, so I reckon they'll always have the best NB/SB for Intel chips.

I hope the BR04 add-on is just a short-term solution until nV have it built into the NB (assuming they do that) for whatever platform. With PCI-E2.0 GPUs soon to land, nV and Intel MUST have PCI-E2.0 mobos ready, else the whole lot just stops, and the accusing fingers pointing towards whoever is causing the bottleneck will probably not be forgiving nor understanding.

While nV are re-doing chipsets...they really should have a look at their power dissipation :p

I could go on..I'll choose not to.

Ahahahaha, they can not be serious, another rediculously poor execution of what a lot of people would like to run.I'm going back to crossfire very soon and staying there.

Regardless of how 'easy' it was/is to do an AMD based chipset, Nvidia was the one to beat and no-one else could get close to the performance.

For me the fact is that they are just adding to useless foundation (NF570/590) - agreeing totally with your comments reference heat/Power (can't see this one being any better and prolly worse) and thickies reference that it's the board that a lot of people would 'like' to use if the performance was there - that comment alone should show Nvidia that with the right investment, they still have a reputation to save...... for now.

update:

780I and 790I

790I is DDR3 only and has the PCI-E2.0 spec built into the NB.
