As peeps know I have an Asus ROG Swift.......now here is my noob question can I use a HDMI to Display Port cable to run it?
And here is the reason why, I have just bought an Onkyo TX-NR636 and in order to calibrate the speakers you need a screen and the only one i have ATM is my Swift and the amp needs to run on the hdmi 1 port so what do you think will this work?
Thanks

It works from GPU to monitor.. I have no idea if it works from Monitor to Amp..
AFAIK HDMI/DP can be converted quite easily with little to no signal degradation because the DP cable simply transmits digital data and doesn't actually process anything until it reaches the ends where the tiny little microchip is, unlike HDMI where it actually has the ethernet and audio processed along with other data. Using an active adapter is recommended iirc. Can't hurt to try.

Thanks NBD I can get a cable for $19 plus shipping but wasn't sure it would work I suppose all I can do is try it

Ya unless you find something on the internet that says otherwise, you could email the manufacturer to see if it would work before buying the cable. Other than that all I can think of is trying it out

Well after looking on the interwebs it turns out that it can be pretty hit and miss getting an active adapter that will work with the Swift so I will just have to wait for my 55" Samsung to arrive and then carry it to the pc room calibrate then put it back in the living room or spend $155Au on a hdmi capable monitor or try and get one second hand

Out of curiosity, how are you going to be connecting these? The Swift only has one DP input. No other ports except USB 3.0 are on there? I don't even think it has a 3.5mm audio output.

You will probably have to connect it from PC to AMP. Looked up some pictures of the AMP and it has dedicated audio 3.5mm inputs for PC. You would need to use a soundcard or rear IO on your board and connect it that way and in the Control Panel go to the sound area and set the output to the AMP and from that point it will use the speakers your AMP is connected too

It will run via optical cable just fine, the problem is you can't use the amp's calibration system without a screen attached and to use it it must be connected to the HDMI 1 port, you'd think you could just use the lcd built into the amp but no....

Hey dude, I posted a thread a while ago regarding the Swift and a ps4....
Basically I have a ps4 and wanted to hook it up to the swift so I brought a active HDMI to DP converter and it doesn't work, I tried a couple of brands etc but no luck.

Hopefully this helps.

It did mate it was one that turned up during my Google search!

No other TV's in the house with HDMI? How friendly is your neighbour? Could save you some cash :)
I agree it's a bit crap that the AV Receiver needs an external display but I'm guessing the discussion in regards to it would have been along the lines of 'whoever buying an A/V receiver is probably going to have an HDMI tv to plug it in to and just calibrate it on that'
I'd wait for the Sammy to turn up and just do it all then and there. Assuming it's only a couple of days away :)

Oh btw- extreme long shot I know but if you're near Hobart drop me a PM and I'll sort it for you.
