NOD32 - Stop it from locking POP3

I don't use NOD32 myself, but my company has just become a authorised reseller as we have a big contract with a client who has a large number of pc's using NOD32.

Basically, the problem we have atm is they are using POP3 accounts which get spammed. On various sites, we have to disable NOD32 in order to receive the emails as it just locks the POP3 connection and loops around over and over.

I was just wondering if anyone knows how to disable NOD32 from doing this by changing a setting or something.

In the long term (a month or so) we will be setting them up on exchange + a linux exim box. So hopefully this is temporary, but it is a bit of an annoyance. :(

There's a tonne of anti-spam settings in NOD32 under settings?

Yer :)

I had a quick look at those but couldn't see any rules where it said drop connection on picking up spam/viruses :(

At the moment, it looks like the only way to get the emails in and stop the loop is to disable NOD32 email protection completely :(

1. Open the main program window by clicking the ESET icon next to the system clock or by clicking ‘Start’ -> ‘All Programs’ -> ‘ESET’ -> ‘ESET Smart Security’ or ‘ESET NOD32 Antivirus’.

2. Press the F5 key to display the Advanced Setup window.

3. From the Advanced Setup tree, click 'Antivirus and antispyware' -> 'Protocol Filtering'.

4. Select the 'Applications marked as Internet browsers or e-mail clients' option.

5. From the Advanced Setup tree, click 'Antivirus and antispyware' -> 'Web access protection' -> 'HTTP' -> 'Web browsers' and make sure that only the applications you want scanned with the Internet filter are selected. Typically only real web browsers (iexplorer.exe, firefox.exe, etc.) will need to be selected. Repeat this step for email clients (outlook.exe, thunderbird.exe, etc.) by clicking 'POP3' -> 'Email Clients'.

6. Under 'Antivirus and antispyware' -> 'Email protection' -> 'POP3' -> 'Compatibility', move the slider all the way to the left, to 'Maximum compatibility'.

7. Click 'OK' to save your changes.

? Any use?

if your company is an official reseller then can't you not get info from eset directly.

BTW which company?

Cool :)

I'll try that, I checked the applications were ticked correctly, but didn't change the slider to compatibility as they have outlook 2003.

Hopefully we will have the problem sorted soon anyway as we're putting in the exchange servers with spam+virus filtering.

we've not really contacted ESET as it's not that high priority as obv putting new servers+network infrastructure will fix the problem :)

I just thought I'd ask as I know so many people on here suggest NOD32 as a antivirus :D
