Nexus 4 Vs Other Android phones

Hi All,

Yup, its phone upgrade time :D

But as usual I'm stumped as to what to get, I really like the low cost of the Nexus 4, and am really impressed with the price but not so much storage IMO. But I really like the looks of Motorola's (Yes I know) Razr I, the one with the Intel Atom CPU, both can be seen below.

N4: https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_16gb

Razr: http://www.motorola.co.uk/consumers/Motorola-RAZRi/m-Motorola-RAZR-i,en_GB,pd.html?selectedTab=tab-2&cgid=mobile-phones#tab

Or has anyone got any other suggestions? Preferably android as I am quite interested is using Ubuntu mobile on it further down the road. Which one would you go for and why? :( I'm just so damn spoilt for choice :p

Tom.

If you're going for the nexus 4, good luck. Ordered mine on Dec 9th and delivery is predicted Jan 23rd. You can't even pre-order one at the moment either. That being said, it's a fantastic phone for the money and being part of the nexus line means you'll always get updates first. Out of the two, I'd have to say the nexus wins, but if you don't want to wait at least a couple of months for a new phone, you'll have to look at something else (or spend a fortune on ebay :( )

Christ! I knew they had a bit of a backlog, but that is rather bad. I found one on the good ol' ebay, for £330, but its only the 8gb version! I have to say, its rather annoying that people bought them, only not to open them and just stick them up on ebay for extortionate prices! Although, I suppose its just life... Any other ideas?

I'm not much of an expert on other high-end android phones out there, probably because they're all out of my price range. However, I still consider the nexus 4 the best out there, even if you had to go for a higher price tag on ebay, or wait quite a while. Are most contracts (e.g. samsung GS3) out of your budget?

Afraid so, and the colours aren't exactly my type, I just find the white too girly, and the pebble blue..well...just yuk! I suppose HTC are an option, but I really don't like the way they suck all the fun and life out of android with their theme, but I suppose I could use a custom ROM, but that voids my warranty right?

If you return your phone whilst rooted then the warranty is definitely gone, not sure if you re-install the stock ROM beforehand (if you're able to). I think in this scenario it would pay to be patient and either wait for stock of the n4 or wait for something else to be released, such as the Galaxy S4 (Q2 this year I think). That said, there's nothing stopping you from paying an extra £100 for an N4 16gb off ebay if you can't stand waiting

My girlfriend just got her nexus 4 2 weeks before the predicted date so dont lose hope :P. From the time ive had with it i think its one of the best android phones ive ever used. I would just wait for it to come back in stock really.

Then again i've got a htc one x running a custom launcher (dont fancy voiding warranty with a custom rom yet). It doesnt look anything like sense anymore until you go into settings etc. If you can find a one x cheap enough then i would go with one of those if you don't fancy waiting for the nexus 4.
