Newbe Question - overclocking....

Comrades,

Put the jigsaw together with no problems and booted fine. Currently using Linux so no dirvers/control centre, to check temps. The LCD displays -60C, however the BIOS states around -10 to -15.

Tried to increase the FSB to 210 and failed to boot, could only safey boot it at 204. Tried to slowly increase voltage etc but it's seem to be stuck at 204.

The motherboard CPU layout is oriented different to other boxes that I own. Looking at it now I do notice that I can see the metal clip around the upper plastic mounting. Have I incorrectly installed it, as surely there should not be such a difference between LCD and the BIOS? Is there any good tools to check the temps in Linux?

What is the best method to overclock the system, with the DFI BIOS, as all I could see was the FSB and voltage, and really haven't got time to research.

Sorry to be a pain, but there already must be so many questions out there like this (and thus answers), so please send me the thread.

Below is my spec, I use my box for IBM J2EE/WMQ/WBI development so am just after pure computing power, but I do love the odd game of EA Battlefield II. Is there a UK Battlefield II Prometeia Clan out there.....

Thanks for help in advance and sorry if this is posted to the incorrect subject.

Type - Mach II GT

CPU - FX-57

Motherboard - DFI - LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR

Hard Drive - RAID 5 (4 x Raptor 36GB)

Memory - 4 x ( 1GB OCZ EL DDR PC - 3200 / V2.8 / CL 2-3-2-5)

OS - Primary Linux / Seconary windo$e XP/XP64

Graphics - 1 x 6800 Ultra

Will boot in Windows if it helps.....

There will always be a big difference between the display on the priommi and the bios reported temps. The display on the prommi is telling you what temps the evap head is and the bios temps is telling you the CPU core temp which sounds about right at -10ish

If you cant clock any higher than 204 are you running your memory on a divider to underclock it to make sure its nothing to do with your problems?

Also contact on the CPU could be an issue here. Remove the evap head and remount with more washers under the mounting screws for better downforce onto the chip

It does sound like a memory problem , try overclocking with just one stick installed then add one stick at a time, it could be the timings are too tight, up the timing rates at the same time.

Agreed - 4x1GB dont sound too good at all for overclocking well not by raising the FSB/HTT.

I suggest keeping the FSB/HTT at 200 and then pumping up the muliplier try 16x200 as a nice conservative overclock.

You'll need to set all the voltages in BIOS too - Start-up to 1.5v VID to 1.55v LDT to 1.4v and chipset to 1.6v.

Try getting an extra 1/4 turn or two out of the head bolts to improve contact between the CPU and the head or use the washer trick as stated by rockingdave..

Or as was stated here set DRAM at 166 (or 150) instead of 200 and then try overclocking

Also set LDT to x4 from auto

Cheers
