Hey,

Running a i7 940 2.93 and clocked it to 3.61,

ran prime 95 on large FFT's and max heat, power consumtion

for bout ten mins and all seem fine,

Temps maxed at 66/67 C (alrite i think)

but the voltage maxed at 1.39v

the max voltage for the CPU is 1.375v

is this ok??

dropped the clock down to 3.2 now,

is it safe to run the voltage that high? or is there

a way to lower the voltage but keep the 3.6?

I'm aware that the voltage and temps will only get that high

with the cpu at 100% which is a rare thing, so should i just leave it

as is?

Ne advice would b deadly,

Cheers,

Joe,

My core i7 965 EX is running 24/7 @ 4115Mhz on air stock intel cooler with 1.5vCoren no probs.

It's the voltage of the ram your should be aware of, not higher as 1.65v.

That's the main thing.

I also run this cpu on Dice with 1.6vCore, no problems with core clock 4cores @ 4860Mhz.

it runs @ 33°C and under full load @ 41°C, that's al.

sometimes a put a Swiftech 6500 TEC on it with custom mounting for benching

Chilled air? Broken sensor? No way a core i7@1.5v runs at 41*C full load while mine runs 1.35v @ 70*C on a Noctua NH-U12P. I know my chip's a hot bugger, but not that hot :p

the only thing is that the window is open, that's all.

This i7 965 OC very nice and don't get so hot like others ????

Nah no possible way its runnign 1.5v on stock cooler my system is wc'd (see sig) and I could dream of 41c load LOL @1.44v!!! 41c with 1.5v idle would be a very good temp, you cooking your chip!

JJ05Y can you list your settings e.g bclk and your system spec, you volts are to high given you clock speed, you should be at atleast 4.1ghz with that

I hate going completely offtopic, but I think your sensors are somehow broken or your program is reading incorrectly. What software are you using? Try feeling your heatsink when under full load, I bet it will nearly burn into your skin.

4090Mhz HT enabled, 1.51vcore, Bclock 186, multiplier 22.

QPIlink : 6800.

Temp reading mobo on REX2 lcd poster : cpu 35°C, NB 40°C, SB 38°C mobo 31°C

in windows the same temps.

i make a screenshot.

settings

it was on 22*164 n voltage on auto,

it changed it to 20*180 n voltage to 1.3,

prime95 been goin for a while, stable, temps up at 66,

whats too hot?

running a noctua btw, (got it yest, bleeding huge!!)

is the qpi/dram voltage the ram voltage u were tlkin bout?

thats at 1.437 (under 1.65 neway)

would i be correct in saying that if u clock ur pc but dont increase

the voltage it wont have enough power to run ur faster cpu??

what relationship do the bclk, multiplier and voltage have?

also what other settings could be/need to be changed?

as the only one's i've touched are blck, ratio n cpu voltage,

the rest is all on auto,

Cheers, Joe,

settings

here's all the info,,,

can i also ask whats qpi link n how does one change it?

cpuz ses its 3240, but it fluctuates a tiny bit so i rekon its on auto,

but i cant find nethin to change to set it to 3240 permanantly,

cheers again,

joe

The QPI link is ... I don't know what it is, but it seems to top around 7-8gHz. It has multipliers just like core and memory speeds, I believe they are x48, x36 and ' slow'. Which is ... x0.5 I think.

Do not forget to crank your QPI/VTT voltage up. This has a safe max. of 1.35 and really helps your overclock once you are putting a strain on your lvl 3 cache (uncore), of which my max. seems to be around 3.3gHz.

EDIT: glad to see another Noctua user :D

qpi??

may sound like a stupid question but

cant seem to find where you

change the qpi base and multiplier,,,

Probably near the core speed multiplier, but I wouldn't know as I do not have a REXII. SwaleSmith probably knows, he's got the same motherboard.
