Actually, a BETA of the new Hotmail has been available for about a year. I've been using it ever since.
It's quite impresive and actually only has one ad, which is at the top of the page. It also loads uber fast compared to the old hotmail, its the same speed if not faster than Gmail.
It's a HUGE improvement over MSN Hotmail. If you want to check it out, the BETA is still open, sign up here: http://get.live.com/betas/mail_betas
@Toxcity: Outlook support is still here, but just like the old Hotmail, you need to have an MSN Premium or Hotmail Premium account. It doesn't matter though, because soon as Desktop Client called "Windows Live Mail Desktop" (The name is still in the works) is going to be released. It has an outlook'ish interface as well.
It's the same thing though. You have never been able to use Hotmail in Outlook Express, Office Outlook or Windows Mail without a Premium account.
You CAN however, sign up for an Office Live account for Free (requires Credit Card info for validation), which will allow you to use Outlook or Windows Mail without a Premium account: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officelive/default.aspx
How did you do that? I've tried it tonnes of times and it keeps saying "This account must be registered with MSN Premium to function with Outlook Express" or something along those lines...

I used to be able to do it before I had a live account. It was all hotmail accounts before a certain date who could. Not that I particularly am bothered about it as using a web-based mail in a client like outlook sucks imo
And ye I've been using Live Mail since the very first closed beta and it's actually damn good and a rival for gmail for sure
