Arguably the best LCD TV at the mo is the Sony KDL-40W4500 (reviews/awards, e.g. WhatHiFi) but 40" is smallest in range. New range out in March with new Bravia 3 engine, W5500s down to 32". I'm gonna get the KDL-37W5500 but it may be outside OP's budget at £799.
