New System Woes

Hi all

Thought I would treat myself to a new System - After tom's £600 gamer review - I brought :

Gladiator Core i3 540 Pre-Built Overclocked Bundle

added a EVGA GTX460 SC EE G/card and a 520W Antec High Current Gamer PSU - Ialready had a HDD.

But there seems to be a problem the system - It won't boot straight off - just restarts - and when it does restart it's without the overclock.

when I go back into the bios and save the "aria" settings - it seems to work ok.

From then on- It seems stable - it's just seems to be the inital power on.

so the question is - should I RMA it ? - or fiddle with it a little 1st to see if I can stablise it myself.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

Just did a quick Google search and that motherboard seems to have cold boot problems, have you tried updating the BIOS?

I believe it's on the latest version already :-(

Check to see if it is or not because a BIOS update could fix it but apart from that it looks like RMA unless someone else knows something that could help.

The Google search I did was "Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H cold boot problem" and as you can tell from the results it's a known prob, I haven't read any of the links though so give them a read as well in case someone has a fix there.

ok - update - there was a new version out f11 - which I applied - but appear to have lost all my overclocking settings.

Will have to try and get the clock settings off aria.

I booted it up this morning and it booted fine - before I left for work.

So it could be the overclocking settings causing it to play up.

will try it again when I've got the settings from aria.

Thanks for your help

ok - Aria are going to send me some - settings in a file I can apply - but might need to be tweaked to make it stable.

will let you know How I get on

Before I had chance to apply the overclocking settings to the m/b - it failed with a primary BIOS failure :-( - so looks like it was faulty after all - will be RMA'ing it next week.

It does boot up not past the bios failure - but is very unstable.

Bad luck mate, at least you know it's just the board and nothing else hopefully you won't have to wait long to get a new one sent to you.

Hi all - thought I'd update my post.

The system board RMA took longer than expected for a couple of reasons.

1. my appendix decided to inflame itself and beg to be removed :-( - so was in hospital for a few days.

2. it was sent off over the BH period - just my luck.

Anyway - I have the system board back now - after contacting ARIA - it appears all they did was to update the BIOS again then re-apply the over clock.

I'm still experiencing the cold boot issues however.

not sure what to do next - RMA it again ? - or leave it as a annoyance.

Hope you are all better dude, I have a mate with a sabortooth mobo and he also has EVGA 460's and same issues, It won't boot cold and some times wont boot at all for a while.

It has been returned with the video cards for testing, Do you have a another video card sitting around to test in it? see how that goes. I think it will fix it. Touch wood.

Things seem to go from bad to worse - I've RMA'd my M/B back to aria for the 2nd time due to the consistent cold boot issues.

It arrived at ARIA minus one of the SATA clips from the M/B - They were all on the board when I packaged it up - but it appears to be lost in transit - It wasn't in the box when it was unpacked at aria.

They'll still test it despite the missing clip - and if it fails try and send it back to Gigabyte.

They did say that Gigabyte might refuse to replace it as it's been physically damaged.

Looks like I might have to buy another M/B if they don't accept it - all because of a small piece of plastic :-( - Not happy.

I brought the 520W Antec High Current Gamer HCG-520 for my system - this couldn't be causing the cold boot issues could it ? - I thought 520W from Antec would be powerful enough.

i was going to say get a more powerfull psu, or the psu could be faulty. i had a issue with my old amd machien it started doing the cold boot thing about 2 years ago, i thought it was the board showing its age. but it was the psu in its death throws. only way to try it is get a other psu if your replacement still does the same.
