New Sabertooth 990FX or switch to a Z68AP-D3 with a 2500K?

Hello, I am currently in the unfortunate situation that my Crosshair V Formula is dead and I need a replacement (RMA not an option).

I am running a 1100T and was wondering if it was worth the extra £135~ (£250~ up from £120~) to upgrade to a Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 with an Intel i5-2500K instead of just buying a new Asus Sabertooth 990FX? I am new to overclocking, so I wont be aiming for anything high, though I am going to play around a bit. Just for the record; I am in school, so I haven't got crazy amounts of money on hand.

Depends what your rig is for mate, if your gaming, you will see a good increase for your money with the 2500k given how easy its overclocked, although if its for video rendering and whatnot, just stick with you 1100t, as its pretty much equal at stock clocks

I would personally stick to using the amd chip as said above if ur using it for a simple machine no overclocking, then at least u get 5 years warranty with the asus sabertooth 990 FX. I have the p67 sabertooth and I can't fault it.

Going to use it mainly for gaming; probably BF3 mostly..

I have not played BF3 yet, but i have a 990FX with an 1100T and i can tell you it's a powerful setup. With a 6950 i get good fps in every game i have played, but the i5 2500k will have superior gaming performance.

I think I'm going to stick with my 1100T then.. It seems they're too equal to be worth upgrading.. Thanks for the inputs (:

With the 990FX its important you buy ram on the supported ram list though, its very finicky with its memory.

What were you thinking of 'upgrading' to any way? it's a well known fact the 1100t kicks the Poodozer's arse.

The 1100t sits amidst the I7 920/930 sort of stable, so there's bugger all reason to upgrade it. Very good CPU you have there.
