New router?

I need a new router, just wondering what the community would suggest.

Currently looking mainly at the Dlink DIR-655. Seems to have a fair amount of good features and is $90 CAD. Most of the PCs in my house are wired so I dont think the simultaneous dual band routers are worth the cash. I would also like to connect my printer directly to the router.

Any suggestions would be nice.

EDIT: Oops! Just saw there was a networks forum. If an admin could move this post that would be great

The DIR-655 has a lot of very positive reviews, so I guess it would be a good choice. I've never owned one though, as I went with the Sitecom Gaming Router. I recommend the sitecom WL-308, WL-309 and WL-350 from personal experience.

Try to get a 2wire 2700hgv off ebay. Usually dirt cheap and perform really well. I have a netgear dgn/dng 2000 atm, its pretty good

I had a WL-308, overheated and died on me in 7 months. Was in a open space aswell, just runs very hot.

Really? Mine ran hot but never failed because of it. It died when I dropped it, but that was my fault ofcourse.

It performed great!

I highly recommend Buffalo routers over pretty much any other company. One thing that is a must for me when router shopping is how much onboard memory it has and what processor it uses. This is important because I refuse to run a router that I can not put DDWRT on, and Buffalo always seems to have the best routers for putting this firmware on. I have been using them for over 5 years now and have yet to have one die on me.

Thanks for some of the suggestion. I see a Buffalo Nfiniti WIRELESS-N High Power Router (WZR-HP-G300NH) which seems to support all the same features as the Dir655 for $85, reviews seem nice on it aswell. And the Netgear WNR3500L appears to have a lot going for it aswell, at $78. The store page states it has Broadcom 480 MHz MIPS® 74K CPU, 8 MB Flash and 64 MB RAM.

Out of these three what would you guys choose?

EDIT: only advantage i can find is DIR-655 can choose 5Ghz range or 2.4 where as Buffalo and Netgear are only capable of 2.4. This feature is not really useful to me as I still have 802.11g devices aswell as n. and my 5ghz home phone could cause interference

i would actualy go with netgear over buffalo,i was going to go for one of them netgears for my sky internet, but i dont have the balls lol

I would go for something like a buffalo router which allows you to use something like dd-wrt as it's pretty amazing for VPN access, firewall control & stats management.

Most companies we sell to get draytek routers because of the features built in (multiple VPNs etc) but they are a lot more expensive.

I personally have a old linksys router at home with DD-WRT running custom firewall etc.

I've experienced problems with dlink routers losing wifi and also netgear routers with uptime and connection stability issues.

I've also had people who have experienced problems with some of the more recent linksys routers tho.

I guess in the end it depends on what you will be using it for and what features you require.

There are some routers like the 2wire ones which are supposed to be good for DSL sync speeds on certain DSLAMs.

So many companies use the same chipsets, broadcom chipsets seem pretty stable and a lot support WRT style firmwares.

The reviews on newegg don't look to good for that router. It looks great on paper, but lots of people complaining about stability.

I'd love something de facto to replace the Linksys WRT54GL.
