New rig failing to boot

Hi,

I've just bought some new components for my system.. I'm new to the whole custom building, so I read all the manuals and followed them strictly, point to point.. When I then pushed the start button, everything but the fan on the GPU started and just stood there.. No POST, no nothing.. My mobo claims it's the cpu failing though.. Any ideas on what's actually failing?

My setup:

New:

ASUS Crosshair V Formula

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black

2x4GB Kingston HyperX

Old:

Nvidia GeForce 280GTX

A 750W PSU of a maker i can't recall (It's bottom mounted)

Samsung 500GB HDD

Try with unplug psu, then hold clear cmos 10sec,then mem ok,read in the manual how to do this.Plug in psu again.

Could also be 4+4 cpu or mainboard 24 pin not plugged properly.

Checked the power cables and tried the memOK, but it didn't change anything.. The CPU_LED on the mobo is still lit up when i turn on the system and it still doesn't POST..

Edit: Clarification

I'd reseat the cpu checking to make sure all the pins are there and not bent. check that the clear cmos jumper is in the right spot remove power and battery and clear cmos and try again lol so many things I'm not sure if ya tried yet

Well its probably something related, check its seated properly and the latch is properly back on.

When i reseat my CPU, is it necessary to reapply thermal paste or is the current layer sufficient? (I'm quite a noob, so I'm not certain as to why thermal paste needs reapplying)

makes sure EVERY connection is secure

if the mobo-speaker is attached... are you getting any beeps from the mobo

if the POST digiLED on?

if it comes on and shows a number - this can be resolved by cross-checking it in the manual

Got my thermal past and tried reseating.. Still nothing

Speaker is attached, and sorry for being a noob; digiLED? What is that?

Are you getting any beeps from the speaker. if so how many?

This is a way to identify a problem.

Also have as little as you can on a motherboard. A good way is to just have the CPU,RAM and Video Card connected to the motherboard.
