New Rig, Comments please

I'm thinking of upgrading my rig and giving some odd bits to my Dad to build him a new PC. He does word processing, surfing the net etc. on his current pc.

I've specced him up a rig, the bits which I am donating (in exchange for a contribution from him to the upgrade) are starred:

8GB DDR3 XMS3 Corsair RAM*

QX9770*

OCZ Vendetta 2*

Foxconn X48 Black Ops

1TB Spinpoint

ATI XFX 4850 1GB

Samsung 22x dvd writer

Windows 7 Ultimate

Corsair TX - 750

Lian Li PC-A06F Black

I'm planning to get an i7 920, EVGA classified and watercool it and some G-Skill trident RAM (2000MHz)

Any comments welcome

That spec looks good though i would think that is seriously overpowered for surfing the net, word processing etc...

It might be wiser to sell of those parts and pick up some decent mid range 2nd hand bits- e7xx e8xx ... or maybe even something based on 1156 platform?

I know its brutally overpowered, he does use it for more complex tasks (just not that often) but he is also contributing a pretty substantial amount towards my upgrade (more than I think I could get for the CPU, RAM and motherboard) so I might as well use these bits.

Yeah, there is no problem having the power for when you need it, but it did seem a waste. If he's paying though, go for it ;)

Xactly my feeling :D I'm looking foward to a nice D0 920, under water, water cooling an evga classified and getting some (slightly cheaper) 1866 OCZ Reapers (there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of success with getting 2000MHz out of the chips)
