New PSU

Hi,

My dad needs a new PSU. I know very little about what to get.

He has an e4500 and is putting my spare 9600gt in.

What PSU would you recomend? I have used it with my OCZ, in sig and it runs. Should I get another one of them?

Many Thanks

Something as simple but reliable as a Corsair CX 400W or OCZ stealthXstream 400/500W would more than suffice. There's definitely no need to overspend :)

I got one of the 400watt stealth's you've got for the family pc rebuild. It's a decent unit and should be fine for the components you've listed.

for someone like your father if he is anything like my father hewould not like to pay a bomb for power supply!!!

i bought 1 of these for my father!! less than £30 similar specs he has a 9600gt and dual core and micro atx p5k board

and it runs his stuff ok

oryxx titan!!! cheap psu but pretty stable his is nearly 2 years old still going strong and his is runnin

650W Max output

+5V = 36A, +3.3V = 34A, +12V = 22A,

-5V =0.3A, -12V = 0.6A, +5VSB = 3.0A

If you are going to spend around the £50 mark then have a look at the enermax Modu82+..they look pretty good.

Corsair 450W VX is sposed to be good as well.

Honestly, high end system or not I would insist on buying an 80PLUS certified PSU for the sake of ensuring a certain level of quality. The Power Supply Unit market is full to the brim with products so one can afford to be picky.

I still recommend the Corsair CX 400W for £42ish or the OCZ stealthXstream 400W for around £45.
